May 5, 20159 yr comment_469186 Here are a couple I saw today. The second one might go a bit higher. http://www.ebay.com/itm/161694770155?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ebay.com/itm/231551552410?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/51415-would-you-give-4000-for-this-car/?&page=2#findComment-469186 Share on other sites
May 5, 20159 yr comment_469188 I was browsing for projects. I don't need one but you never know. I might find the perfect car to supplant my other projects. I like to look out West because the cars have less rust. Found this http://palmsprings.craigslist.org/cto/4982451262.html Thoughts? I won't do it but I have seen a number of cars that are $4-500 cars in my opinion but are starting to be priced a lot higher. Not saying this is a $500 car but a $4000 car? What do you all think? The floors seem jacked in to.. To bad about the custom " mud flap fenders " , this is only more work getting the fenders back to Original for a body shop.Overal I think the shell is okay for a restoration, we've seen much worse. But I agree with the rest, you have to dump loads of money into this to get it back to a decent quality. Skip it and search for something else imo. May 5, 20159 yr Author comment_469194 73str86the first car is in the NC and probably has the typical rust for my area, maybe worse since NC salts their roads. The other Ebay car which is sold would be a great project platform. I wasn't really thinking of buying this particular car or any car for that matter, but I am always looking. My larger point is that our Z market seems to be appreciating rapidly . May 7, 20159 yr comment_469295 Short answer - no. $4K is all the money for that car, as others have noted, there are better choices. As someone that spent nearly 20 years looking for a Ferrari (ok, not all 20 were "serious), I looked at a lot of bad cars before finally getting one. In the Ferrari world we say "beware of red mist" - don't be so enamored with the car that you purchase something that will devour your wallet. Same applies here - while the number of really good Z cars may be increasing in value, there are deals to be had. Keep looking. May 14, 20159 yr comment_469788 I meant to add that remember this is "asking" price. Shoot, they could "ask" $1M for the car, doesn't mean they'll get it !!! :: :: :: :: As a point of reference, I am trying to sell my 2000 Lexus GS400. In the condition it is in (fair), KBB tells me it's worth ~$6K, but I can't get rid of it for $3K...go figure. May 25, 20159 yr comment_470453 wow 4k i would say there could be some surprises lurking in there and i would say if if the car was truly a 79k mile car why repaint it or why wouldn't it be in a garage most of its life , i got 20 bucks on 179k Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/51415-would-you-give-4000-for-this-car/?&page=2#findComment-470453 Share on other sites
May 27, 20159 yr comment_470644 Here's a $2,000 project car on left coast. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto/5043901548.html Ad text: 1971 Datsun 240z for sale: I bought this car as a project a year ago. I don't have any time or money to put into it so it's time to move on and let someone else have a try. The car sat in someone's driveway for almost 20 years with little to no protection from the elements so the interior is in pretty bad condition and the fuel system needs to be flushed and cleaned. When I bought it I had a shop do a little work on it to see how far off it was from running. The fuel pump was replaced and there is a new battery in it. I'm guessing that the carbs are now gummed up with old gas so it will need a carb rebuild before it's going to run. There also seems to be some issues with the brakes and clutch bit I never got that far. Some key details: -No title. I have some of the paperwork completed for a replacement title but I haven't the time to take care of it. -Aftermarket sunroof -Rust in the rear hatch area -Frame rails and floor pan are free of rust -55000 miles (seems to be correct mileage based on the state of the body) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/51415-would-you-give-4000-for-this-car/?&page=2#findComment-470644 Share on other sites

May 27, 20159 yr Author comment_470677 Buying a car with no title makes me nervous. There are title companies you can get a title from but if the car shows up stolen you are out of luck and out of a car Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/51415-would-you-give-4000-for-this-car/?&page=2#findComment-470677 Share on other sites
