Dumb gas fill question

Sometimes the rod needs bending. MSA sells an aftermarket one with a straight rod but the Nissan one I bought, from my local dealership surprisingly, matched the original when I laid them besides each other.

I got a Nissan unit from MSA, and it was just like the original.  I think bending the arm would help, thanks for that idea!

Before you bend the arm, lift it all the way up. The limit of travel. Shorting the fuel gauge leads tells you your gauge reads "Full" but the sender might not have low enough resistance when all the way up to read "Full"

I'll do that.  Should have checked it that way before I installed it, but it was a new unit and didn't expect any problems.  Have to run some gas out of it, now.

My dumba** tried lifting mine up with a piece of wire through the fill hole, DO NOT be as stupid as me, I thought I was gonna have to drop the tank to get it back out.  I had just finished with everything and sealed the nail head connections with liquid electrical tape that I didn't want to redo.  The wire got stuck where the rubber meets the tank, still can't figure that out but it did.
