2ManyZs Posted March 16, 2003 Share #2 Posted March 16, 2003 The Tension Rod or T/C rod is the same for all cars up to 78.
24OZ Posted March 16, 2003 Author Share #3 Posted March 16, 2003 Hi Keith,I wasn't referring to the Tension Rod I was referring to the Track Control Arm aka the Transverse Link.Thanks.
Bambikiller240 Posted March 16, 2003 Share #4 Posted March 16, 2003 He means the actual Lower control arm, technically called the Traverse Link in the FSM.I don't know the answer for sure, but I BELIEVE that there are different P/N's for this part between 240Z and 280Z.Sorry I can't be of much help to you.Carl
MikeW Posted March 16, 2003 Share #5 Posted March 16, 2003 After reading the reply from 2ManyZs, I'm not sure you guys are talking about the same part. The MSA catalog currently lists the "Lower Control Arm, Right 70-78" for $49.86. The equivalent part on the left size is listed as not currently available. The "Tension Rod, Left/Right 70-78" is available for $110.15. In either case, the answer to your question is "Yes".
2ManyZs Posted March 16, 2003 Share #6 Posted March 16, 2003 Well George, you seem to have us confused what you mean by the transverse link.... The only part of the Z suspension that we'uns over on this side call the transverse link is in the rear suspension that connects the rear mounts of the control arms...If this is what you are referring to, they are interchangeable, although the 280 has a bend in it for more clearance for the R-200 rears our 280's had... 24OZ Posted March 16, 2003 Author Share #7 Posted March 16, 2003 Hi all and thanks for the replys,The confusion arises, i think, due to the many various names for the same parts....Here are a couple of examples of front suspension terminology and what different sources call them. (I know they refer to the same item as the sources I have used include pictures of the parts in question)FSM: Transverse LinkHaynes Manual (UK): Track Control ArmVictoria British: Control Arm - LowerMSA: Control ArmFSM: Compression RodHaynes Manual (UK): Radius RodVictoria British: Tension RodMSA: Tension RodI have also heard this being called a T/C Rod.FSM: StabiliserHaynes Manual (UK): Cross MemberVictoria British: Front Cross MemberMSA: Cross MemberFSM: Suspension MemberHaynes Manual (UK): Stabiliser barVictoria British: Front Sway barMSA: Sway barThe FSM's interpretation of the last two components I have listed, what the FSM refers to as the Stabiliser and the Suspension Member, is so confusing I am wondering if this is a typo in the FSM. 24OZ Posted March 16, 2003 Author Share #8 Posted March 16, 2003 The part I was referring to is located on the front suspension and depending which source you are using is called: FSM: Transverse Link Haynes Manual (UK): Track Control Arm Victoria British: Control Arm - Lower MSA: Control Arm THANKS
Mudge Posted March 17, 2003 Share #9 Posted March 17, 2003 Yep, transverse link aka control arm, the Haynes calls the rear lower control arm a transverse link.I know this only because I had to remove the whole friggin thing to change the shoes in back, rotor was frozen solid to the center hub.
