Bought a car that looks like a shoe today

Honda Insight 2 seater from 2000.

I figured I'd stick it to the fuel companies.

First drive was 50 mpg US gallon at 72 mph on highway for 60 miles.

3 cylinders and over geared.... just as gutless as my first car... an 83 Tercel Wagon 4X4.

Web Photo in case the car is not familiar:

Congrats Blue!  I always thought the Insight was interesting and big Kudos to Honda for making it and keeping it around for so long.  Years ago I had a roommate that had one and he loved it.  I drove it a few times and you are right, its pretty gutless but the MPG's do make up for it.  And we all know gas will eventually go back up.

Blue, bring back those priceless memories, I will sell you my '83 Tercel 4X4 wagon at a resonable price.  Runs good, replacement engine, reliable etc

When those first came out they had a price tag of  $20,000 us.  All aluminum body and frame so no rust issues from a 15 year old car.

Not sure i'de trust that onboard mpg calculator. I use the cell phone app Gasmate to calculate more precisely how much fuel is used.

I'm generating a surplus of solar electricity every month and thought about getting a hybrid and putting a secondary battery pack

in with a plug in charger but im just too cheap to fork out what they want for one.

If you get tired of the gutless motor and want more power, try the early 2000's Vw tdi's. They get 50+ mpg and are pretty peppy.

The diesel smart car is supposed to get 70+ mpg but that thing looks like a death trap. The first gen insight always reminded me of the

wacky space age car in woody allen's movie Sleeper.
