Can these cause your Z not to turnover? I know your car can stall or cutoff if these are not stableand/or disconnect while driving. . I changed these ( 75 only have 2 ) last AUG. I checked the coil, dist wires, battery cables. Those are ok...It's getting gas to & thru the fuel filter. The car has been sitting since late summer 2002. It was driving before I bought then.

I have 3 wires that bolt with the NEG cable to the battery. Should this be on the POS cable instead? There is a wire on the POS cable but there's nothing on it. I bought it like that. The same goes for the NEG cable. I think it's there if you wanted to use it for a radio or something. I have a fuse link near the fuse box. It's connected but to what I don't know. It has a fuse inside a small capsule near the fuse box. I can't wait until the clock moves forward. It will give me more daylight during the week to work on this car. My only times are the wknds. By time I get home from work it's almost completely dark outside.

I just ordered one and I wanted to know if these books show you how & where all the wires & hoses should be? I'm having problems stating my Z and I see alot of wires that look like they had been connected but to what I don't know. I have a wire w/o a connecter on the end of it that's grounded to the frame near the AFM. I have a hose coming from the purge valve off of the canister that's not connected to anything. I sure it goes somewhere....If anybody is in the MD, DC area that doesn't mind stopping thru just to look over it, I'd appreciate it. If so, send me an email and we can go from there.....I live near a Z shop in Upper Marlboro but I can't get it started to get there.....

Ok man, the symptoms you describe almost sounds like you might a have a major vacuum leak. In this case it will throw your mixture all off and will cause your idle to be waay off. Since you said you have a hose comming from the carbon canister that goes to nowhere, I have reason to believe this is true. Check it out.

The best advice I can give is to get a Factory Service Manual. They are expensive, but, compared to the other manuals you buy, they are worth every penny. I've got an old Haynes manual that has a small section on the 280's, but it shows evertyhing except the vacuum line diagram. I'm fairly sure the FSM has one, and will have much better electrical diagrams as well.

The FSM has a very large section for trouble shooting problems with the fuel injection as well as test to perform on the various sending units and sensors. It is money well spent if you hate banging your head against the wall when it comes to fixing problems on the FI and ignition in the 280's.

I believe, on my car anyways, the canister's purge vacuum line is connected to some port vacuum on the intake manifold. Mine is right by the cold start injector...this is also next to the vacuum for the fuel pressure regulator. This may be different for you because you have a 75-76 model as apposed to a 77-78 model i have. Check it out... Also try listening to the motor when you start it up. If you here a hissing sound, that will be a sign of a vacuum leak as well.

Like 2manyZ's said...use the vacuum diagrams and electric diagrams in the manual to trace every thing to the right places. Even if you have to go to your local auto parts store to buy a cheap manual, it put you in a much better situation to find the problem. This way you dont have to guess, especially if you arent a mechanic with years of experience. Good luck.
