August 30, 20159 yr comment_476664 They never did say, but I think it had to do with the cam regrind. They went for a mild regrind because they wanted something street-able. At that point they may have figured that the car would have limited additional oomph from the triples. There is another thread on this episode on this forum. August 30, 20159 yr comment_476671 surprising that they wouldn't just pop off the head and clean it up - but i guess they didn't need to!they sure make it look easy in tv land eh? Hope the wipe patterns are ok.At 20:45 they have a woman describing "hard-welding" the cam lobes to build them up, then regrinding the new profile, to maintain the stock base circle. Not sure what shop they were using but doesn't seem like standard practice. Maybe they couldn't find lash pads. August 30, 20159 yr comment_476683 Considering all of the problems people have stopping cam lobe/rocker arm destruction with new or reground cams, the "hard-welding" is surprising. The shop looks iike it's called R&R Cam, or H&R (it's on the side of the building). Probably never worked on a Datsun camshaft. I'll bet many of these car show cars self-destruct after the episode is done, Or the car sits in a storage area somewhere, where nobody can see what they really did to it. I'm a cynic, but they are just TV shows. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/52250-wheeler-dealers-72-240z/#findComment-476683 Share on other sites
August 30, 20159 yr comment_476684 And, of course the classic meaningless performance terminology - Stage 1. And sprayed with special "moly" spray for polishing. Sorry to bash on the show. The car modification show formula is just so common today, it's hard not to make fun of it. Still fun to watch though. August 31, 20159 yr comment_476718 Just watched the show today. Got a chuckle hearing them talking about how the "240 zed" upstaged the MGB.Yes, there were some "questionable" items, but as has been pointed-out, it's a TV show...The driving shots at the end were very nice. September 6, 20159 yr comment_477109 Velocity must have shown this episode 10 times the past couple of weeks. I'm OK with that -- anytime a 240Z gets airtime, especially in a positive way, I'm all for it! At one point Velocity showed the 240Z episode of 'Garage Squad' right after the 'Wheeler Dealers' 240Z episode. Two different TV shows in a row featuring 240Zs -- this has to be a first in television history! September 6, 20159 yr comment_477114 Steve, Where have you been? Haven't seen or heard from you in a looong time. Nice to see you back. PM me with your email address and I'll add you to the Z guys list. You missed a very nice drive last Saturday up here. We had 12 cars and 15 zedfanatics and drove from Loveland to Masonville to Stove Prairie to Poudre canyon to lunch at Mishiwaka to Rist canyon back to Masonville ending at the Big Thompson school and US 34. A fun day was had by all. Welcome back. Cheers, MikePS: sorry for the thread hijack Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/52250-wheeler-dealers-72-240z/#findComment-477114 Share on other sites
