The news about the attack on Iraq is probably not news to many of us here in the club.

However, I wanted to open up a topic about this just to talk and share opinions. Keep checking back and share links with each other as this event unfolds.

As of right now, the US remains poised for an attack as the 8pm ET (today) deadline approaches.

It appears that the US has support from many countries. But, it still appears that the UN is still not supporting this action.

Last night I caught part of the presentation given by the British Prime Minister Tony Blair. While I sat and watched his strong presentation, a lot of the reasoning behind the attack began to make sense.

There are various opinions about the subject and I would like to open a discussion about it.

I realize that many people will have different opinions on this matter. Please understand that your opinion is welcome and I will do what I can to minimize flame wars. And, if you are strong about a certain position on this matter, please don't flame those who might disagree.

Let's share with each other (links, ideas, etc) and keep talking about it as the event unfolds. All members are encouraged to participate and especially those from outside the US.

It is going to blow up - 1000 paras dropped in Northern (Kurdish) Iraq, ostensibly to open up the northern front but in reality to 'stabilise' the region, ie police the Turks and Kurds ! Now the Kurds have moved into some vacated Iraqi troop positions, is this the provocation Turkey is waiting for not to lose out on the land rush ?

... and in the south the Iraqi troops break through the lines and attack. The civilians take the food and water without - as usual there - any discipline, enter the help-convois, turn around, think "You bloody fools" and look out for a gun. Didn't the secret services tell that before or did they fell asleep or did they only exist as satellites in the orbit that have no feelings for mentalities, pride, religions and history? Didn't the CIA tell you that Katar , where the US headquarter is, hosted Bin Laden and other Al Quaida leaders in the past and protected them against CIA and FBI? Did you see the fake pictures that CNN showed you, for instance the soldier that fired a bazooka into the open hatch of an absolutely empty armoured troop transporter, just for fun or do you call that "friendly fire". Does the british public realize that no orders for the reconstruction are given to GB (Fred, that covers what you said about France and the '91 attack). Where will all that end, in the eve of destruction (do remember that Anti Vietnam war song)? God bless the brave coalition's soldiers. Bagdad is waiting. Finish that war soon and successfully and take care for the future structures in that "vulcanic" near and middle east area. North Korea is waiting

I've always thought that the move for a land grab by the Kurds is a realistic fear for the Turks. There's the obvious problem of 'Turkish Kurds' in south Turkey wanting to join there counrtymen across the border to realise their dream but also if a Kurdish state was established and recognized by the Americans it would need significant military support to exist with the ongoing Turkish threat or that of what ever government comes to exist in post war Iraq if the situation is not resolved properly. Such US military support would once again give the US great bargaining power for possible oil supplies from the newly established Kurdish region. We would see the same support US gives to the Saudis and Kuwait as long as the oil flows cheaply.

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome and I'm sure there's alot more theories on the topic, jeez easy to forget that this is a Z site hey???hehe

In one of the tabloid papers over here in the UK, they did an article on Comic Al... The Iraqi Minister of Misinformation...

There was basically 10 ludicrous predictions coming from him.. all had pictures of him with speech bubbles coming out of his mouth, they were all hilarious but highly relevant to Londoner's understanding the gags...
