loudoun Posted September 13, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2015 All, Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I wanted to get some advice. I pulled a set of bumpers off a Series 1 parts car to replace the bumpers on my own Series 1. The bumpers I pulled off look good, but do have some surface rust on the interior/car facing side. How would you recommend I prep the bumpers prior to putting them on my driver? Thanks!
S30Driver Posted September 13, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2015 When I did mine, I used a wire wheel attachment on my power drill to thoroughly clean the inside of the bumpers of any corrosion, then bought the POR15 starter kit & used the cleaner and metal prep, then applied the POR. Tape any holes in the bumper to prevent it getting on the chrome surface. After it dried, I painted over the POR with a gunmetal grey paint.Came out great.
jfa.series1 Posted September 13, 2015 Share #3 Posted September 13, 2015 +1 on the process described above - its exactly what the paint shop did for my bumpers.
ajmcforester Posted September 13, 2015 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2015 Replate them
dmorales-bello Posted September 14, 2015 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2015 If you have them re-plated the shop will usually prep and seal the inside surface as well.
