thefastestz Posted March 21, 2003 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2003 I bought one of those keyless entry kits frome VB.I gotta say my experience was very negitive. I could not use them on my 73 cause i could not find any reasonable way to mount them. I really couldn't see any good way to do it. I tried on my 78. I saw a way to mount them but I failed and it was very fustrating. I got them mounted but they did not have a smooth motion and when I got the door back together I could not lock or unlock the door, with my hands. The culprit was the attachement to the door lock stem being too FAT.The catalog says EASY installation but since they are universal sets they do not actually cater to the Z.If any one has had a positive experience I'd like to know. Heck!!! if anyone has got them on even if it was fustrating I'd like to know how you performed that miracle.I am not talking to my tool box for a few days due to all the fustrations.Maybe it will work better on my sisters 99' silverado! Lots more space for those BIG actuators that are in the kit.
tanny Posted March 21, 2003 Share #2 Posted March 21, 2003 Glad you put up this post. I had often thought of doing the same. Guess I'll stick with manual.
billcapp Posted March 21, 2003 Share #3 Posted March 21, 2003 Have you considered returning the kit?....or at least talking to them about the problem. They seem to want to help.Bill\PS You won't know unless you try...maybe at least they will remove them from the catalog if they are not suitable. Not being familiar with the exact type you brought, I can say that I purchased and installed a set into my 260Z.Easy; no, it wasn't. It required planning and manufacture of various bracket etc to make the system workable without hickup.Worth it; absolutely. Advice; Don't attempt this if your not familiar with manufacturing one off items. It can be done and the effort is worth it.
That Ozzy Guy Posted March 22, 2003 Share #5 Posted March 22, 2003 I don't know what these kits are but when I got my alarm installed I got the guy to disable the locks so now the keys are useless (as are screwdrivers :classic: ). At the same time the doorlock knobs from the inside were taken out and replaced with red alarm warning lights.
Bizza Posted July 19, 2003 Share #6 Posted July 19, 2003 Ive installed my central locking into my 76 zed myself. The only thing i found hard was where to place the unit inside the door. The trick was to have the bracket bolted with the door handle to the panel. Even then it was hard for me to move around. Wether the central locking triggers the other lock just depends on the adjustment.I don't know exactly how big your unit is but mine was the regular type.Ever considered a proffesional to install it for you? PrOxLaMuS© Posted July 19, 2003 Share #7 Posted July 19, 2003 has anyone tried any other kits? I know when I just had my alarm system installed last week, they wanted $150 for their own "custom" kit and installation.. i thought VB was the place... guess not
