October 18, 20159 yr comment_479317 I will be going to a local shop here in the morning to see the cost and options for a 2.5" stock header back system with a glasspack and turbo muffler. October 18, 20159 yr comment_479340 I have the MSA kit on my car, and I ended up adding a straight through muffler right after the header because it was too loud.(But maybe I am just too old to appreciate the noise.) ;-)Same here, I like the new sound better. My neighbors like it even more. October 25, 20159 yr comment_479783 I upgraded to the Abarth system after doing a rebuild on my engine. It is a little pricey and NOS but you can still find the original 30 plus year old exhaust from a few suppliers. It is a direct bolt that was manufactured in Europe, made exclusively in the 70's for the 240z's with enhanced modifications. I have a few more pic's in my gallery. It has that low rumble and sounds great. October 27, 20159 yr Author comment_479919 Maybe this could be an option! Is the MSA Premium Exhaust System, 70-72, 74 240Z-260Z (For Stock Manifold) rust free?? Stainless Steel? http://www.thezstore...ssic19j/15-6302 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/52607-replacing-exhaust-system-on-my-1972-240z/?&page=2#findComment-479919 Share on other sites
October 28, 20159 yr comment_479973 That exhaust is aluminized. It will rust given time. It is not stainless steel and would cost twice as much if it were... October 28, 20159 yr comment_480044 I bought the complete Z store premium exhaust and their header, I'm not very happy with it. First it didn't fit, I would say this thing was 3 inches too long to fit under the car so it sure wasn't "bolt on". After trimming and fighting with it I got the pipes close enough to mostly fit under the car but its still not quite right. The engine drone is horrendous and im young enough to still really like some loud exhaust. On the high end the pipes sound great but I plan on driving this car. In the end ill end up taking it to an exhaust shop anyway to get rid of the droning sound and fix the fitment Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/52607-replacing-exhaust-system-on-my-1972-240z/?&page=2#findComment-480044 Share on other sites
October 30, 20159 yr Author comment_480120 Do you have an audio of this? i wouldnt like to spend US$300 in something that first of all does not fit nice under the car and second is so loud i wont be able to listen to the radio. I use to have the twice pipe exhaust and it was quite annoying! October 30, 20159 yr comment_480178 Nothing that great yet in terms of a video. Ill probably do an inside the car video soon with my new go-pro. Again at high RPM it sounds good, but the drone at regular city traffic speeds is terrible. October 30, 20159 yr comment_480179 I'm happy with the MSA exhaust system. Here's a picture of the new MSA compared to my old set of twice pipes Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/52607-replacing-exhaust-system-on-my-1972-240z/?&page=2#findComment-480179 Share on other sites
October 31, 20159 yr comment_480204 I really like my MSA system, 6 into 1 header then 2.5. I enjoyed the loudness for a year or so but then I started driving it to work and having to leave out early in the mornings I was a little embarrassed. I had a muffler shop put a resonator in and am happy as ever with the sound. Cost $45. November 1, 20159 yr comment_480245 How was the fit for your guys? No joke my system was so long the muffler wouldnt clear the rear body of the car until i trimmed a few inches off the pipe and re-flared the muffler slip on area. Even now its probably an inch or two too long but i convinced it to go in. I also have the MSA header so the extra length might be in that, but the complete kit didn't work for me.
