Need some advice on maybe selling?

Gents - Well said. My first sports car was a 1973 240Z way back when - it rusted out from under me (Canadian car). I then went through the MGB, TR6, a couple of old Corvettes, a 1972 Camaro and a sweet 1969 Camaro ragtop. I now have 2 1971 240Zs (southern US cars)and I am a very happy boy.

I've been in a few 911's - nice and all. Just not my thing. I like being different and I see so many about.

 

I'm in California at the moment and I've seen a lot of Porsche's since I got here, but I NEVER see an S30z on the road (actually when I was in Las Vegas a couple of years ago I saw a rough looking 280z), but I always expect to see more driving around here. Never... which makes me sad.

 

This morning I saw a Silver FD RX-7 (I've got 1 like it back in Sydney) and I got very excited to see an RX-7. Again super rare car here and not many around. The shape in my opinion is intoxicating. Much nicer than anything from Germany at that time even if the 993 is 1 of the most beautiful 911 shapes. The FD owns it hands down in terms of styling, just my opinion.

 

I feel the only car that could replace an S30z for me is an FD RX-7. I feel it's the modern reincarnation of the S30z, the 350z and 370z just don't appeal to me. Yeah it's got a funny motor and all that, but they are not that bad in terms of reliability especially if left well alone by amateur mechanics.

 

My FD can't replace the feeling I get from firing up the 240z though and the sheer joy I get from looking at the S30z shape.

 

If you're feeling a little bored, it's time to start looking at some other countries for inspirational S30z's. 

 

For example check out this European spec 240z.

I've worked on and driven many performance cars: Porsche Boxster, 944, 911 Turbo S, Cayman R, NSXs, EVOs, STIs, newer Z-cars, all sorts of M3s, etc. Before having these experiences I would romanticize about owning all sort of stuff. That list has shrunk greatly.

 

From a big picture standpoint, including reliability, fun factor, ease and cost of maintenance, the Z is a clear winner. I love the combination of engineering whit and soulful design. I wouldn't sell it to buy anything else. I also have a Honda S2000 and feel the same way about it, to me it is the modern incarnation of the S30.

I have definitely come to my senses, yet again :)

 

I have decided to double down on the Z.  After the suspension redo (and wow, what a difference that made, I am going to start to make her a little bit that much more special.  Since I have already departed on the 100% original path, I think I want to explore some more fun yet fully reversible ideas.

 

I am going to get a new BRE rear spoiler but leave it flat black instead of body color.

I want a new intake manifold for my Triples so I can use the original push pull rod throttle likage, as the Cannon I have is just complete garbage.

 

So in my future,

 

I think I want to get some parts from the Kameari swag

 

A Kameari intake for the triples,

a pair of Kameari drivers and passengers seats.

a Datsun Competition wheel

 

That is the new target for the Z.  Going to give the interior some lov'n.

I like your choices! As soon as my rear suspension is done she's getting black BRE in the front and back.

 

And those seats look incredible!

I'm very happy that you have finally seen the light!!  I know you would have regretted this forever.

 

Also, before you go for the Kameari intake, take a look at the one from Harada.  I purchased a new one from eBay and couldn't be happier.  The throttle rod is almost double the size of the standard Cannon setup and even bigger than the upgraded one you installed.  Also it comes with an integral return spring and I was able to eliminate the 2 long external springs I had been using.  Now my idle returns to normal EVERY time without having to kick the accelerator.  Finally, the rod ends are an integral part of the design (not threaded like the Cannon) and they use teflon bushings for really smooth and flawless operation.  As I recall it was also less expensive than the Kameari.  Take a look here:

I did spend some time smoothing out some of the casting marks as well as polishing up the insides of the runners and finally had it powder coated.  I am very happy with the results and would never go back to the Cannon.

One question

The side that mates to the head looks very thick

How does it compare with the cannon for thickness ?

That is perfect! And I can use the OEM push pull rods
