Hey!

I found some more pictures.  Here are the front suspension compression rods I was talking about.  I also have yellow paint on the transmission brace bolts and differential mounts.

 

The yellow paint was applied to indicate correct installation and torque.

 

You made me giggle with your overspray, comment, Dan.  Who the hell is ever going to know?!!?!!  Here is my best oil pan overspray picture...both styles!

Thanks to everyone who helped out with all of the reference pictures.  I finally took the plunge and

started to do some of the yellow inspection markings to see if I wanted to go down that road.

Too clean.  Too sterile, neat, tidy.  You're missing drips and runs in the paint.  Splotches!  We must have splotchy paint!  And splatters.  It's the splatter that matters!

 

I just knew you were going to see, and say that.  I agree, but it goes so much against a neat freaks nature.  Time for further experimentation! 

 

As for the red paint mark on the tranny, that's a whole new project, ie., correct color, placement, drips, runs, etc.

Dan,

Here's a photo of the original paint marking on the transmission that I masked off to save on my 7/70----there was no way that this marking was going to be bead blasted away to oblivion. (please pardon the glaringly blue oil pan---a big mistake on my part when I did it and it will be corrected)

Your absolutely fantastic car has helped me immeasurably-----I find myself burrowing into every photo you post to see more and more the painstaking and uncompromising level of restoration you have accomplished. When I am looking for what is "correct" I go to your car,  followed by Kats magnificent documentation, every time. There are simply no finer examples.

Thanks for the compliments, Jim. I also got much of my inspiration by following all of the fine work Kats

did on his car. He is a master at illustrating, with words and pictures, the definition of originality.

Great photo, Jim, and your car looks really nice. Looks like the ol' Red Blob, if proven to be correct

for my car, is next. To find the right shade of red, I noticed that the left front suspension spring has

A blue and red identifying paint mark and the right spring has just a blue paint mark, all which identify

spring type and position.

So you could then say, if this is correct, this may be the shade of red to use. The red blob may identify

the type, ie., A-transmission. Looking at discussions started by Arne about the red blob, others have

also found a red "L" shaped mark on the lower right side of the bell housing which could mean something

like "meant for left hand drive". Conjecture yet to be explained.

Thought I would update my pictures after re-doing a lot of the manufacture inspection marks on my car.  Not quite as neat and sterile as before.  

I still need to research the correct red for the front suspension compression rods that 26th-z mentioned and for the tranny bell housing splotches also shown in 

previous posts.  I still need more evidence that those red inspection marks would be correct for my car.

Hi Rich,

thanks for those.  I'm not seeing anything on the steering rack other

than the colored tape.  I'll definitely do the yellow mark on the engine.

you have the earliest of oil pans, so may need to do some more

research on the preserved white V marking.  I've got one of those

early pans in the attic which will go on eBay unless someone here

wants to offer on it.
