Not Z stuff - Internet sites sharing your email address - for the web gurus

I was on Monster.com the other day looking at jobs and saved a bunch of links to my computer.  I was logged in to Hotmail at the same time.  The next day I had a bunch of emails from Monster about my incomplete job applications.  I hadn't logged in to Monster so obviously Monster knew that it was me on their site because Hotmail (Microsoft) had shared the fact that it was me on the Monster.com site.

Actually, I think that it's probably an error that exposed the fact the Monster and Hotmail share user information, since I didn't start an application for any of the jobs that I saved the links for.  Any web gurus or conspiracy theorists know anything about sharing information between sites?  Does Monster own Hotmail now, or vice-versa?

Kind of irritating that you can't trust any internet site at all now for confidentiality.

A complaint and a share, combined.  The internet is becoming one huge psyche-exploring machine.

Here's another one that I can't figure. A few months ago I tried to look up an architect as a favor for someone. IIRC it was on "whitepages". I didn't sign in there or give (knowingly) them any of my information. Also, I was not signed in to my yahoo email at that time. A day or two later I emailed my cousin asking for my other cousin's phone number. Then I got an email from "whitepages" saying they found Clarissa (my cousin, not the architect). Damn them.

Mozilla add-on  BLUR

BETTER PRIVACY

Even with your passwords and payments secured, you’re still being
tracked by hundreds of companies collecting as much data as they can
about you - use the Blur extension to:
- Block hundreds of companies from secretly collecting data about what
you do online
- Block tracking that doesn’t rely on cookies (more effective than
“private browsing”)
- Stop Facebook and others from tracking you even when no logged in
- Updated service and protection incorporating feedback from over 10
million daily users (block new and emerging threats)

Privacy settings FIREFOX

Mozilla Firefox offers a Do Not Track feature that lets you express a preference not to be tracked by websites. When the feature is enabled, Firefox will tell advertising networks and other websites and applications that you want to opt-out of tracking for purposes like behavioral advertising.

And lastly disable third party cookies

Realized that Monster screwed up and that I was just being paranoid.  I had clicked "send me similar jobs" on Monster for a single job description and instead of doing so Monster sent me a bunch of "finish job application" notices.  The old "bait and switch", still alive, but with modern technology behind it.

I'm running Google Chrome in Incognito mode so the Firefox stuff won't help.  Thanks though.  Pretty sure though that as fast a blockers are developed, ways-around follow.  I still get videos that play automatically even though I have every possible blocking tool I can find loaded.
