Posted November 17, 20159 yr comment_481174 This car caused quite a stir at SEMA recently, the product of Z Car Garage and OS Giken. Thanks to the ZCG blog, there's now video -- and audio http://www.zcarblog.com/2015/11/16/performance/os-giken-tc24-b1z-in-action.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/52837-os-giken-240z-in-action/ Share on other sites

November 17, 20159 yr comment_481176 so basically all Z engines have to sound like they have valves tapping... HAHA Amazing engine for sure. That poor 1970's tach just cannot keep up.Anybody else think 50mm throttle bodies are a tad too large. November 17, 20159 yr comment_481188 It revs as quick as a Wankel and sounds a lot better. I'd love to hear it unleashed on a track. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/52837-os-giken-240z-in-action/#findComment-481188 Share on other sites
November 17, 20159 yr comment_481208 Evidently the car seems to like the large venturi size. Maybe because it breathes better with the extra valve area, it doesn't suffer with the over carburation the standard L6 heads seem to have. At first I was gonna respond to the "throttle body" portion of your question. It is my understanding throttle bodies don't have as big of an issue with bore size because the fuel is at a higher pressure and atomizes even at lower rpms. Also was it really necessary to chop a huge hole in the hood? I hope that's a fiberglass hood they cut up. "No officer, I don't know why you stopped me..." ...but officer, I couldn't have been speeding! My speedometer never left zero." November 18, 20159 yr comment_481210 I'd say that the engine was built to handle 50's. It would be hard to compare this this maticullously prepared head to any stock production Z head.It definetly can flow more air thus the bigger bores. It will be interesting to see Derek's DOHC head in comparison Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/52837-os-giken-240z-in-action/#findComment-481210 Share on other sites
November 18, 20159 yr comment_481214 First time I've seen extractors like that on a LHD Z car. Looks and sounds great. Guess the hood wouldn't close. November 18, 20159 yr Author comment_481217 In the driving video, the complete hood looks to be in place. For the OS Giken SEMA booth, a modified hood gave the car some finishing touches but still kept their engine on display. November 20, 20159 yr comment_481328 wow, it does sound fantastic. i recall reading (Honsowetz) that the crossflow head designed for the L6 didn't really do a whole lot in comparison to the cost - am i missing something? November 20, 20159 yr comment_481388 Well compared to the cost...! The last time I heard about one of the heads the cost was like $25,000 or so IIRC...
