One of the problems with the 300ZXT CVs was that aftermarket versions only came in one size (not right and left). Used with an R200 in a lowered Z and the result could end up costing one a set of diff gears in less than 100 miles. And yes, the noise was horrible...

I'm looking at the R180 Sube diff and CV route for this winter's race car project.

is this a problem if you have a legit set of 300ZXT axles? a proper left and right with the CV cage reversed to make them slightly shorter, as some resources indicate?

The 240Z's seem to have less space between diff and hub than 280Z's.  240Z people often have binding problem with u-joint halfshafts when they swap an R200 in, even though the 280Z's come with the R200 stock.  The rear hubs must be thicker on the 240Z's.  Beware.
