I should clarify my previous answer too.... If you were my kid I would do the same as Jonathan above; find a safe reliable daily for you and still purchase/encourage your love of the S30.

I am almost 50 and have been in multiple accidents, almost all of them someone else's faults and due to Canadian winter conditions.  Some were pretty bad. None in a sports car, luckily.

I can agree that the S30 and even my 370Z are fair weather cars. They only go out in nice sunny conditions. The 370 is almost 6 years old and barely has 35,000 km's on it and that is mostly hwy mileage to British Columbia for summer vacation! I daily drive a Lincoln MKX  and my wife drives a Hyundai Veloster. The sports cars are for fun and recreation only. Well, the 280Z will be when it's done, LOL!

Jonathon,

I wouldn't daily drive an S30 in Atlanta either. A tank would be my preferred choice...

Actually any Urban Assault Vehicle (UAV) would be preferred for big city driving.  I get into Los Angeles every few weeks in my 4X4 truck and wonder how I ever got around in that city/congested freeway traffic in my low to the ground Z many years ago.

Dennis,

I have never driven in any of the large California cities but I have driven in Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Dallas and many of the larger southern cities, if I never had to drive through Atlanta again that would be ok. They drive really fast, which I'm ok with, but they tend to be 12" off your back bumper when your doing 20 over already...

I'd look into getting a different car, but the guy selling me this Z is pretty much giving me the deal of a lifetime because he's part of my boyfriend's family. He's had the car since the 80s, and it runs and drives. He's only asking the price he'd get from the buy-back program, and is giving me a year to pay him in full. Plus,if I don't get it he'll sell it to scrap. So not only do I love this car, but it's a killer deal, and I'm saving it from the recycle program. So it means a lot.

Definitely get it and heed to all the safety suggestions you've gotten from all the guys. Enjoy life. I'ts shorter than you think.

I have the car my parents gave me, but it's a mini van which is essentially the lamest thing for car people ever. I can't stand the thing and it's slowly falling apart. So I'm just trying to get my own car I can learn and work on :)

NNOOOOOOOOOO! Not a minivan! That's like a mom-car.  Maybe, if you ever have kids……...

Seriously, free car a 17, I would not have complained.  When I turned 16 I asked my dad for a car.  He asked me how much money I had, which was $0.  Gave him the answer. Then he said "Sounds like you need a job".

I loved my dad, he always gave the best direction and advice, even though I wound up with a Vega notchback 2spd auto as my first  .

It could be worse.

My Dad gave me a car when I turned 16, took the keys every time I did something he didn't agree with.  I bought my 1st car when I was 17, he drove the car he bought for me.  It was like new, I did a lot of stuff he didn't agree with.  :D
