Redwing - Battery question

Redwing

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

A question I forgot to ask about earlier. I started a topic on it, but cannot find it to add onto it.

This part I'd already reported, but to refresh your memory:

Regarding RedBird's mystery multiple problems. I realized there was something wrong with her old out of date, small battery, as she went roo, roo, roo when starting. I'd heard this before on other cars, so took her right to Advance Auto to have it checked out. They found out indeed the volts were low and advised a replacement. I agreed, and it was done.

New:

I forgot to mention to you, when he removed the clamp on the positive side it immediately broke in half. My question is, would that clamp, aged to the point of falling apart, possibly be part of RB's problems?

BTW She is running and starting GREAT now. Of course, it is cooler weather, and her problems started in June when hot out. Not sure if that directly impacted her problems, could it have been coincidence? I don't know.

Thank you all for your valued and right on suggestions. You are the Best.

Jai 😇 🚘

most definitely. loose or corroded connections can create many problems. i try to replace batteries and cables every 4 years whether needed or not.  nothing worse than getting stranded by something so simple.

It was tight the last time I put it back on. I suppose it was reaching its fatigue point. The strength of connection will have a direct correlation on the ability of current to flow. A loose connection provides more resistance. I was unhappy with the condition on the cables on my 260Z. That's why I changed them out.

Steve,

Yes, I know you put it on tight, no question there.

I'm thinking that maybe it would do me well to get a new set of full cables. The Advanced Auto man only replaced the clamp on the broken one. If the clamp is broken, perhaps the wires are weary too. Will do as soon as I can.

Thank you for your answer.

Jai
