Anyone know where to find those 70's mag wheels ?

I have only 1 Original one on my car, the rest are aftermarket. Now I have 280ZX wheels, but I would prefer going back to these old school 14 inch mag wheels with fat tires, looks better on a classic imo. If anybody has or knows where I can find a good set with the correct lug nuts and washers for the 240Z let me know ? I'm posting this question here on the club, because I can't seem to find anything on the internet.

I see them on many old Z's that need to be restored. Where these some kind of dealer option wheels ?

My first Z came with those rims.  They have a problem once the mag corrodes with those rims it causes the lugs to back out.  Their are several aftermarket rim manufactures that can make you a rim just like it.  However I would go to a 15" it will be cheaper overall once you add tires and it gives you a lot more tire options than the 14".  15" tires make it match with Honda and many other manufactures tire sizes.

The one I'm restoring has American Racing rims that I plan to get a not DOT tire from dunlop.  That is only one of two tires on the market in original size.  otherwise you need to go to a 285 that is a minivan tire.

I've got the opposite of you Bart, 3 originals and 1 made later.  You have to really look to tell the difference though, it's the shape of the scallops that are different.  Another thing I think is important is that the 3 early ones have the washer pressed onto the lugs, unable to fall off and get lost when they're off the car.  The newer one has the lugs and washer separate.

If you lived closer we could do some swapping around and each have a complete set. :)

It's not my car haha, Just an example for the mag wheels.. It's currently for sale on Ebay.

The reason I want to stick with 14 inch is because with 15, I can't go much " balloon " tire, without the tire rubbing the fender..

Oldskool was... 14 :D 

But where these mag wheels back in the day a dealer option, anybody knows of ? Or just populair aftermarket wheels everybody used back in the day ? I see them on old Mustangs to etc..

Hehe, yes we could. I believe the Original one says something like " us indy mag " on the rear stamped to it

It seems when I bought the car here in the Netherlands from stolze the wheels where still on the car..  ( see picture ). It must have been with him where it went wrong..  I remember when buying my car those wheels where not on it ! I asked for them, because I saw them on this picture, but I didn't notice, they where not the same onces he put back on the car.. :(

The wheels are called 'slots' and they come in many different variations.  Slots were very popular at the time and many dealers sold them as aftermarket options.  They were never supplied from Nissan.  My slots are 14"x6" Japanese aluminum and the lug bolts have the washers press-fitted.  I have center caps but they fall off all the time.  I would want to say that slots are probably the most common Z wheel.  You should be able to find a set in decent condition for a reasonable price.  Always beware of people selling bent or broken wheels.

Goggle slotted mags or ansen mag wheels and you should find them easier. I have them on mh Zed and also hac them on a Holden Monaro back in the eighties. Back then they were common aftermarket wheels.

 

This was a set I was thinking of to be able to use 15" tyres. Im happy with what I have atm.

 I believe all early Zs came with steel wheels and hub caps. In the PacNW nearly all of the Zs had slotted alum. wheels added at the dealer. My 71 had US Indy wheels on it when I bought it in 73. They also had the lug nuts with the non-removable washers. I wonder if all the early Zs had US Indy wheels. Anyone know about early Z wheel supplier contracts?
