jamesd3rd Posted January 27, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2016 Was there another Datsun/Nissan car that used the same door latch as the 1980 280ZX? I've replaced the original on a friend's car because the cam that rotates around the strike post would not engage. As a result, the door won't stay closed. The replacement bought on Ebay barely lasted a week. I think the same thing happened with this one. I came across a YouTube video where someone had the same problem. It looks as if these things have a tendency to fail the same way. Whatever makes the cam stay in position when the closes seems to break. I'm hoping there were other cars that used the exact same design because sources for 1980 280ZX latches is pretty limited.
black gold man Posted January 27, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2016 Do your strikers have the plastic on it or is it gone .

And I wonder why wasn't the strike post made thick enough in the first place so the plastic wouldn't be needed? black gold man Posted January 28, 2016 Share #6 Posted January 28, 2016 IT is there as a sacrifice to save the latch from damage. Lots of cars and truck tail gates are like this.
jamesd3rd Posted January 28, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted January 28, 2016 OK I was just curious. Back to the original question. Are there any other cars from Datsun/Nissan that used that exact part number so I'm not just limited to early 80s ZXes? That really limits optioins.
