February 19, 20169 yr comment_486788 That tape looks like it's to the injectors. Maybe they're new or he cleaned the connectors? or both. I would rather have a 76 than a 78. No smog crap to deal with. Probably has the n42 intake which is desirable. Be happy with your car! I would be. If you're trying to indicate that there's definitely water in the oil, then...bummer. Check the cylinders for head-related problems. Spin the engine with no spark plugs. If any water droplets at all show up, you'll need to pull the head. If the PO replaced a head gasket because of overheating he should have had the head checked for warpage. You might have bought a problem engine. February 19, 20169 yr comment_486822 Old school method to find water in the oil was to put a drop onto a hot exhaust manifold. Pure oil will just smoke, no noise. Any water in it will sizzle and steam. February 19, 20169 yr comment_486825 Maybe he already has the head off and is measuring for warpage, and looking for cracks. Could be. 51 degrees in Nampa, good car work weather. February 19, 20169 yr comment_486826 That's probably what all that tape was for, somebody pulled the cylinder head and marked the connections. Just guessing though. May 14, 20168 yr Author comment_495029 After a couple of months we've got the car to run again. The problem was bad fuel and we had to purge all the lines out with clean fuel. We also changed the fuel pump and fuel filter. But we ran into another issue, the car is over fueling. One of my friends who's a mechanic said to see if we can find new injectors. But is that the only option for this problem. We also put a bottle of sea foam in the gas to clean the injectors so it could burn the bad fuel. We've been fueling it with premium but it might be too rich. Any thoughts? Sorry for the late post Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/53316-need-help-with-my-1978-280z-22/?&page=3#findComment-495029 Share on other sites
May 14, 20168 yr comment_495033 You should put a cheap fuel pressure gauge on one of the fuel lines. Your return line could be pinched or clogged. Fuel pressure regulator may be bad, is the vacuum hose connected to it? Hard to believe all six injectors went bad. Tap them with a screwdriver to unstick the pintle's valve maybe? You can put the screwdriver handle to your ear and the tip on the injector body and listen for a tapping noise. If they're tapping they are working. Good luck! May 15, 20168 yr comment_495041 Don't forget the good old coolant temperature sensor. The #1 cause of running rich (aka "over fueling"), I believe.
