Hi

Does anyone know if this E88 head is an early version or a later?

Im a bit worried about the cr because it has been shaved 0.40 (1mm) and im putting 0.40 over flattops in the N42 block now(had dished pistons before).

It doesn't look like the early version, they have a notch above to the left of the spark plug. That would make it a later version and looking at the size of the seats it could be off an L26.

If its an L26 head it will have larger chambers than the earlier ones. The L26 version has something like 47cc where the early veesion has 44cc. Are the valves 42mm inlet and 35mm or 33mm exhaust? 35mm would make it an L26 head.

Do you know any history on it like someone putting larger valves in it maybe?

rather than worry about the model year, why not just cc the chambers? simple task with a piece of plexiglass with 2 small holes, some grease for a perimeter seal and a measuring beaker - then you'll know for sure.

Wouldn't you need to install the valves and springs for testing? or is there a way to close up the valve seat without the valve?

Thanks!

Resemble begins in a couple of weeks.

Valves are installed already.

Ofcourse I could cc the chambers, would be the best way.

I just know that I would be ok if it were the later model or at least a bit safer.

I have a felpro head gasket, anyone know the compressed thickness. 1mm is what I remember but not sure. Oem Nissan is a bit thicker isent it?

I mesured my chambers and got 49cc. Should be 47.8cc original.

It has bigger valves N42 size. And the seats have been swapped to steal.

Can this be a reason that the cc are higher or am I just not good at measureing ; )

Im looking at about 9.4 in cr at the moment.

Will that be enough to work with the cam Msa calls stage 3?

It has been shaved .020

Would prefer a cr of around 10.4.

What do you guys think?

Drop it at the machine shop and let them measure it maybe is the best way?

I would fret over a 1cc measurement difference. I think that answers your question about what version e88  head.it is..

I would stay conservative on CR with that combustion chamber. Might work on making sure the valves have been unshrouding to improve flow as much as possible.

I'm running a stage 3 with 9.5 and it has plenty of pop!

I might settle with the cr i have now, somewere around 9.4-9.5.

then im defenetly safe regarding issues with pinging. Will run 98 octane so I guess I would have no problem running full timing.

We will see in a couple of weeks how it turns out.
