i have a 71z that has p215/60r14 rears, and p195/70r14 in the front. Now when i have two people and i am driving fast and hit a bump in the road the rear tires will scrape the wells somewhere. i have heard you guys talking and i dont believe that tire size should be a problem. So if that is true then i need new springs right? could shocks be the problem it does not seem to bounce that much. so i found some performance springs at the z store that say they lower the car about an inch. wouldnt that make the problem worse? am i stuck getting regular stock shocks? tell me it ant so! jason

if the car isnt bouncing around then your shocks should be fine, those rear tyres are actually smaller than the factory diameter so your right the tyres arent the problem either, sounds to me like your springs are saggy and old, are they the originals?

stiffer springs that lower an inch from stock ride height will be fine, you will probable find with these installed there wont be much difference in ride height as the original springs would have sagged alot in 30 years. the stiffer springs will be around about the same compressed height but wont compress as much under load and this will hopefully stop your scraping problem.

dont sue me if they still scrape though if you already own the springs give it a go.

when i bought my last 71 240z, the springs which i believe were still stock LOL were still on the car with a worn set of mulhulland struts.

when i put my good set of msa 1 inch lowering springs on the car i actually gained ride hieght.

goes to show you how badly springs and shocks can get worn.

nah when you order struts you will get dampers or shocks.

springs are springs.

putting in springs is a pain. you will need spring clamps and a funny tool to take off the top caps. if you've never done it before you'll save some time and frustation by getting them installed at a suspension place.

the job is extremely easy and straight forward. you would want to put a bit of oil down the cylinder of the strut to make it easier for the next time you need to change them.

the only hard part might be getting the large gland nut off of the strut tube.:tapemouth
