Posted March 26, 20168 yr comment_490528 I am putting new valve seals on and just want to ask the preferred method. One thing I have never changed out. Just don't want to damage them. Then the SS valves and new springs. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/54677-valve-seal-install/ Share on other sites
March 26, 20168 yr comment_490529 get a drinking straw just big enough to fit over the valve end. cut it long enough to slide over the keeper grooves, and then cut it. use some heat source to heat one end and roll it to a point. slide the straw over the valve, add a couple drops of motor oil, and slide the seal down the straw. this keeps the keeper grooves from damaging the seals Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/54677-valve-seal-install/#findComment-490529 Share on other sites

March 26, 20168 yr comment_490541 Those seals should have a couple of straw like condoms in the bag. put the curled end on the vale tips. Oil them up like SB says. Push the valves through. Reuse the condoms on half then go with a new one for the other six. DO NOT FORGET TO PUT THE SPRING SEATS ON FIRST I learned that that hard way. March 26, 20168 yr comment_490567 using some oil and the little stem condoms is a must - otherwise the valve collet keeper groove will cut the sealing surface on the rubber seals as they pass by. be sure they 'snap' all the way down onto the retainer on the head - a small socket or a piece of pipe of the right diameter will work if your fingers can't do the trick. the first one will be a PITA and the next 11 will go on just fine once you figure it out.
