I'm really impressed with the site, and considering asking for a New Zealand area forum that I can link to our local site , which I am redeveloping - it got raped by a bunch of 300ZX enthusiasts :-)

trouble is that the site freezes up my IE5 the moment I load the URL, without displaying anything (I loaded Mozilla to get around the problem, works fine)

..has anyone come across anything like this before? is it a security privileges problem perhaps? any feedback gratefully appreciated

I'm computer illiterate, but I've never had a problem. I'm using IE6 though.

Two things you can do:

First, get the update to IE5 and go to IE5.5 (That's the last one I have) OR get the update to 6.

Second, Mike likes a lot of information on the front page, and it does take a while to load on a dial-up. I've seen it take as long as 45 seconds before it finally comes up. So, your second option is to simply be patient and not rush the machine.

As a last, desperate option. Get DSL.

Yea, it sounds like your IE is stuffed... You should try to upgrade to a newer version. If that's not the problem, your OS might also be screwy. I just had to re-install my OS because I had too many things causing problems. Microsoft doesn't have a very good system for uninstalling software. So, if you install apps and then uninstall them a lot, you will see your OS degrade slowly.

I usually reinstall my OS once a year. Cool thing about newer computers, they usually come with a "reformat system" CD. Meaning, this CD can be used to get the system back to original condition as it was sold to you. You will lose all of applications that were installed after the computer was purchased, but, those are easy to back up and replace. Just make sure you back up your data (financial files, pictures, etc) before you do something like that.
