Posted April 8, 20168 yr comment_492006 I put the dust shield with the round hole on my 2.4 motor. It came off a ZX 5 spd with the 240mm flywheel. It lined up perfect. The one on the left is the one that came off the car but I chose the one with less opening to better keep dust/dirt out of the block. Did I make a mistake? April 8, 20168 yr comment_492020 Isn't the bigger hole just for inspecting the core plug area? They probably closed it to keep things cleaner. Look at the all of the clutch dust that would make it past the old one. I'd use the newer one. April 8, 20168 yr comment_492040 The one on my 280Z and the spare I have are two piece units. Didn't know they made so many different styles Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55221-did-i-screw-up/#findComment-492040 Share on other sites
April 8, 20168 yr comment_492044 Aren't the two piece units for automatic transmissions? You did an auto to manual swap, right? I wonder if the later auto units have a smaller hole, still two pieces. April 9, 20168 yr Author comment_492111 I found this showing the two plates for a Z. Think the one I'm using with just the hole for the end of the crank is for ZXs. April 9, 20168 yr comment_492131 Here's a picture of the plate from 1981 ZX engine. Had it off recently. 5 speed manual transmission, all stock junk yard car. April 9, 20168 yr Author comment_492135 That conforms what I put on tjete Thank you @Zed Head. I had a mini-stroke earlier when my new pressure plate wouldn't line up with the aluminum flywheel I put on yesterday. Dug out the OE flywheel and moved the pressure plate around laying face up on my bench. Found the right holes and marked them with a sharpie. Mounted right up then! Now I'm thinking I should've used thread locker on the 6 bolts? Torques at 15lbs. Probably go back and do that after I calm my nerves from the misalignment issue.
