Posted April 11, 20168 yr comment_492392 Here's what you could buy in 1979 at my local Datsun dealership, I think I even test drove that pickup. Those Z's sure held their value! . April 11, 20168 yr comment_492394 That was good deal on the 240 then because a new 1978 280 cost 9 grand and zx as much as 13 grand in 1979. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55253-z-deals-this-day-in-1979/#findComment-492394 Share on other sites
April 11, 20168 yr comment_492399 The ad was right, there is more future in a Datsun! As the existence of the site has proven. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55253-z-deals-this-day-in-1979/#findComment-492399 Share on other sites
April 11, 20168 yr Author comment_492406 It still amazes me how well the prices for used 240's held up throughout the 70's. For 6 and 7 year old cars the prices in this ad for the '73 and '72 are still quite close to their original MRSP even taking into account the slip in the Canadian dollar in 1979. I guess part of that was due to the bloat in the price of the new 280ZX's. April 11, 20168 yr comment_492408 Here in Portland, even in the early days of Zs, A used Z was about the same price as a new one. The plus side of buying a used one was you didn't have to wait for six months to take it home. Paid $3750.00 for my 71 in 73. Not too far off from the new car price.
