Posted April 22, 20168 yr comment_493271 A bill to move the smog exemption up to 1980 has made it out of committee! A number of similar bills have been introduced over the years, but to my knowledge, all of them died in committee, so this is big news. There may be hope on the horizon for us 280 owners! http://www.dailyturismo.com/2016/04/coffee-brake-ca-sb-1239-moves-smog.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55321-a-glimmer-of-hope-for-us-californians/ Share on other sites
April 22, 20168 yr comment_493291 About time, smog testing 35 yr old cars doesn't make a lot of sense. The emissions contribution of these cars and older is negligible... April 22, 20168 yr Author comment_493297 Heck, I wouldn't even mind a smog check if it didn't include the visual inspection. If the car passes the sniffer that should be good enough. In the days when my 1970 Porsche still had to be smog tested, it would pass the sniffer test, but not the visual test due to some items not being on the engine carb linkage. Couldn't find all the necessary bits and pieces the smog referee insisted on, so I put Historic license plates on the car and never had to go through smog testing again. I'm glad those days are behind us. April 22, 20168 yr comment_493336 Still has to go through Appropriations Committee but none the less its a step in the right direction. I'm all for the clean air act but lets go after the "polluters". Our old cars don't even put out the amount of emissions the state of CA claims they do. They use our cars as an escape goat, so to speak.
