The 72 Z that I have just started tearing down has been in storage for about 20 yrs I think, you can smell the the mouse pee from a several feet away even though the doors have been off for months now. I removed the dash yesterday and found one of the many generations of Z enthusiasts that have inhabited the car in that time, say hello

With the nest removed here's what their pee did,

 

It might be one of those "metal munching mice" supplied by Gidney and Cloyd. Hop into the "WayBack Machine", you'll remember. Probably spent 20 years stored in Frostbite Falls.

Before Chris bought it from me, the car had sat (stationary) in three different driveways across Ontario:  Burlington (3 yrs), Cobourg (3 yrs) and Oshawa (unknown, but probably at least another 3 yrs).  Not sure when the mice came on board .

The odd/gross stuff I've found in mine doesn't even compare.  You win!

Check inside the fan housing.  Mine was full.  The top of the glovebox was the toilet area, apparently.

Worst one I've seen is behind the rear interior panels over by the fuel expansion tank and the other side by the speaker. The pee from the little bastages rotted out the wheel arches in my ol' 260.

I think this was a multi generational traveling family,  Z gypsyies.

That is todays job, I'm pulling the heater box this morning.

When you have the heater box and blower housing out of the car, you may want to replace all of the foam gaskets that are used throughout the housings and ducts.  I made tracings for all of these when I re-built the system for my '70 a couple of winters ago and then scanned them into .pdf docs (made it easy to print new ones if/when I made a mistake cutting out the template to be laid on top of the foam sheet).  Once I get my home computer working again (thanks, Windows 10), I'll email these to you.

I used self-adhesive neoprene foam tape around the duct openings as the oem's had disintegrated to dust. works well and easy to keep in place. You can order the stuff online by the roll in various thicknesses and widths - useful for lots of applications.

I've finally managed to get my computer working properly again after its forced upgrade to Windows 10, so I'll see what I can do to post the package to the CZCC site.  It was fortunate that all but one of the gaskets (and there are many) were of a size that would fit on the glass of my scanner.
