July 1, 20222 yr Author Popular Post comment_641971 Guide coat this afternoon This is what it looks like when you block. The dark spots are low and still need some work to be smooth Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55369-1971-hls30-14938-lily-build/?&page=44#findComment-641971 Share on other sites

July 3, 20222 yr Author Popular Post comment_642000 I believe it's all blocked now. I will unwrap it and check-sand it. Then on to rebuilding the booth and getting ready for color Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55369-1971-hls30-14938-lily-build/?&page=44#findComment-642000 Share on other sites

I'm pretty sure you know this already. but one might point out that the order of operations here is extremely important.  Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55369-1971-hls30-14938-lily-build/?&page=44#findComment-642088 Share on other sites
July 9, 20222 yr Author comment_642239 So I was gonna try and spray color this weekend but that's not gonna happen. I reset the booth and added an inflow fan like Homebuilt by Jeff had. The problem came about when building the fan. I stabbed my thumb nail with a philips bit in an impact and tore about half the nail loose! 🤬 Shelley helped me get the booth all back set The weather this weekend is also pretty rainy and humid. So I will try again next weekend. May try a test panel with the new spray gun tomorrow. (Sorry but had to make this joke..) i wish your thumb get well fast !!  Maybe you can make a (metall strip) bow or 2-3 inside the filter then you have a bigger filter were the air go's through much faster? just a tip.. the filter itself you use is big enough for that. Take your time for paintwork, get to know your (new) paintgun. July 10, 20222 yr comment_642256 Dang, sorry to hear of your injury. Great work on the booth, especially with a helpful and understanding spouse. Looking forward to seeing Lilly back in color. July 16, 20222 yr Author comment_642456 So yesterday Shot some white basecoat There was still a little trash in the paint. No idea where it's coming from. So I worked those areas with a little 600 grit and then degreased again and tacked the car Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55369-1971-hls30-14938-lily-build/?&page=44#findComment-642456 Share on other sites
July 16, 20222 yr Author Popular Post comment_642457 Today A bright gallon Here is the yellow basecoat I think that was 3 coats of base. There were some areas that had a little gray show through and they were super hard to get covered with the yellow. It's just so transparent! Â 3 coats of clear. Overall, not too bad but one of my cans of clear had a little rust on it and it ended up in the mixing cup. the paint screens didn't get it all. So there are a few brown specs in the clear. I will have to cut them out. Hopefully I won't have to reclear. It's progress though. My booth didn't totally work the way I wanted. My intake fan filter ended up clogging with exhaust paint overspray coming back in another door of the shop. At the end the booth was pretty foggy! Don't light a match!! I probably should have worn my Tyveck suit but it was already hot in the booth... Colour!!!!
