May 6, 20231 yr Author comment_653395 Worked on the heater box some more today. Blasted the cases. Primed and painted. Blasted the hardware and strung it. Ready for plating. Need to test the heater core somehow Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55369-1971-hls30-14938-lily-build/?&page=58#findComment-653395 Share on other sites
May 7, 20231 yr Author comment_653398 @Namerow What is the best way to use those templates? I would print them but that seems like it would use a lot of ink. Is there a better way to do it? May 13, 20231 yr Author comment_653611 I was working on the heater box some today. Tested the heater core that came in Lily, it's cracked! 😞 They are evidently, not readily available. "Brassworks" will custom make you one for $425! So I dug around in the shop and found another one. It tested good. They both appear to be factory units. May 14, 20231 yr comment_653613 I wonder if a radiator repair shop could fix that crack? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55369-1971-hls30-14938-lily-build/?&page=58#findComment-653613 Share on other sites

I thought I might take a shot at it myself. If not I'll have them do it. So I have a spare for me or someone else Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55369-1971-hls30-14938-lily-build/?&page=58#findComment-653614 Share on other sites
May 14, 20231 yr comment_653618 If you clean the crack really well (with a small grinder) than you can simply solder the crack and it will be good to use again. The decal caught my eyes, I didn’t know it is there! 「日本ラヂエーター」Nihon radiator Co.,ltd. (NICHIRA) I will check my blue 240Z if it still has the decal on it. May 14, 20231 yr Author comment_653644 I try to tape off all those decals before I bead blast them and paint them. That would be great if you can use these pictures later! July 24, 20231 yr Author Popular Post comment_655360 Made some more progress on the heater box a couple of weekends ago Core Adding foam I don't really care for the white foam showing, but I guess it doesn't matter I stripped this and have since replated it. I have also softened the Oring in detergent, but haven't tested it yet Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55369-1971-hls30-14938-lily-build/?&page=58#findComment-655360 Share on other sites
July 24, 20231 yr comment_655375 Maybe too late now, but I posted printable templates for all of the heater boxes, flaps and ducts in 'Resources - Knowledge Base'. Might save you some time. Don't overlook the foam liner for the centre air outlet duct. It's there to reduce air rush noise. Also: Be careful with the edges of the vinyl-faced flap coverings. They may need some edge profiling or cutting back to keep them from snagging as the flap moves from 'open' to 'closed' position. You don't want those things coming loose after you've installed everything back under the dash. They are very helpful Is the "central air duct outlet" the one bolted to the heater box or the thinner one that connects the dash to the heater box?
