You are correct on the colors. red/white and red/black are high and low beam returns. Red is the right headlight, and red/yellow is left.

I did find this for the engine harness side: https://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/5507024

As far as the connectors go, the VC 3 pin is different from stock. http://www.vintageconnections.com/Products/Detail/80

This is what the stock female side looks like (on the headlight harness itself):

70 71 72 73 Datsun 240z OEM Headlight Harness

The VC connector might not light up quite right with this.

So you're saying I might have to replace both connectors to the headlights if the VC connector doesn't line up just right.

Also one of the ones to the headlights in the harness looks to be a red 10ga. All the rest of the cut wires appear to be 14ga. There is a plain red 14 ga too apparently

I can't say for sure. I would have to build a female connector to test.

10 AWG goes from the switch to the fuse box, then goes to both headlight fuses. (That statement is wrong for the 70 & 71. The headlight switch in those years completed the path to ground.) The red for the right headlight should be 14 AWG.

On another note, how is the clutch master sealed to the firewall? Gasket, sealant, nothing?

When I replaced the clutch MC in the 73, it was not sealed. It was also not original having been replaced in 94. The FSM doesn't say anything about sealing it, either.

Maybe @zspert could confirm.

So is there a crimp in the harness somewhere?

I'm not sure we're at the same place here. If you are talking about in the engine harness, I can see in the FSM, it shows a red for the headlights and a red for the fog lights. I do not know if the fog lights were run as 10AWG. The headlights were 14 AWG.

My earlier statement on the red being 10AWG going to the fuse box is incorrect about the 71. I was thinking about the 72 & 73.

So I'm thinking I'm going to replace the headlight wires in this harness. I will weave new wires in the harness while I rewrap it. What colors do I need? (R/W, R/Y, R, R/B?) What gauge wire matches the factory gauge?

I think these Japanese cars have the metric system on wiring.. so you need 2,5 mm2 wires for the headlights, actually 2 mm2 would be sufficient but i think they are 2,5mm2  (house wiring over here is often 2,5mm2.. good for 16 amps)

If you are gonna use the H4 lamps of 65 watt a piece then you have no trouble at all.

My experience back in 2015. YES you need both ends of the connector.

The VC connectors are the same, but diffrrent. If you know what I mean. I couldn't get the little bugger to fit (probably used other words at the time) and had to order the other side to match. Lucky I could order them through a local supplier Rick Donkers auto electrics. VC suggested him.

Hi Bart, Is that the same company you used for the harness in your Mustang? Neat and clean harness in the Mustang.

The one in the link covers a lot of models. S30 and the S130. Bold statement they are making.Screenshot_20230123-175630.png
