dutchzcarguy Posted September 17, 2023 Share #745 Posted September 17, 2023 Sorry but it's well over 20 years ago i took those headlights apart. But it says.. ( gasket fits between headlight and CARBODY!) i copied it from the site: These headlamp gaskets will fit 1970-78 Datsun 240Z, 260Z and 280Z. This headlight gasket fits in between the headlight housing bucket and the car body. Choose from right or left. I thought this gasket sits in between the headlight and the fender and that dome sits inside the fender. (I totally can be wrong..) OPen this link and ( Datsun Z Head Lamp (carpartsmanual.com) ) So the fender is inbetween item 12 (gasket) and 13 (dome) ? The sugarscoop just sits in front of the headlight, there is no connection to that part.. Again, i'm not sure.. if there is another rubber inbetween i like to see/know it. dutchzcarguy Posted September 17, 2023 Share #746 Posted September 17, 2023 Took another look and saw something strange? why need 2 from every gasket? there is also a special one for the 2+2 ???? You need the first 2 partnumbers for 2 seater. But i'm almost sure i only used 1 gasket on every headlamp.. Is it possible there is one in front and one on the rear of the fender? weird... It didn't see that on the website picture/exploded view. I guess the qty: 2 is just a mistake, you need 2 but only 1 set of one left and one right .. 12 PACKING-SHEET RH 26027-E4100 7307 2 PACKING 26027-E4101 2 SEATER 7308 2 PACKING-SHEET LH 26077-E4100 2+2 SEATER 7308
Patcon Posted September 17, 2023 Author Share #747 Posted September 17, 2023 The headlight gasket is between the headlight bucket and the inner fender. There was evidently another seal between the sugar scoop and the fender. I have never seen one. Would love to see an image of what it looked like

My question would be: But was that a original part or did someone think it would be better/nice to have one there.. Does it excist on the fiche of the 240z? EDIT.. oeps.. i see that you found that on the fiche in answer #733.. I really don't know it's been 23 years since i opened one up.. I asked BING for a picture.. he/she is looking for one and i report IF it gets one haha.. I think you better make one yourself of a inner tube of a cartire. maybe jfa.series1 has a pic. inline6 Posted September 19, 2023 Share #749 Posted September 19, 2023 My headlight housings (sugar scoops) had never been off of my car before I took them off. There was no sign at all of a gasket there. In fact, I could tell from the original factory paint that the scoops were on the car (and bolted tightly in place to the front of the fenders) when it was painted at the factory. I don't think any rubber gasket was used between the sugar scoops and the fenders. Never seen one in all the years I have been internet surfing Datsun Z's either. 1

They paint salvage cars for me sometimes and do a lot of panel painting. Good guys and they turned out pretty good. $650 and I supplied the material. He did some prep work to augment mine and blocked everything to 500 wet.

Patcon Posted October 2, 2023 Author Share #756 Posted October 2, 2023 I have been pulling some larger items together for plating. I have 3 pairs of headlights and thought I would post up some observations on the factory parts The buckets themselves look like they are probably all the same stamping. They clock them 180d out to make L and R side buckets. Then the spring tab gets added, which covers the R or L stamping location The headlights buckets have the exact same part numbers no matter L or R The lamp rings are made for either the left or right side
