does anyone know if these will fit a 72? my car had the round "Z" emblems, but i like these better.

The short answer is "no".  The long answer is that your round emblems are fresh air vents and closing them off will ruin the ventilation system unless you change the rear hatch to the style with the vents AND change the interior panel to the vented one.

Most Z-cars have so many air-leaks from rust holes, bad weatherstripping, missing grommets, etc. that it probably doesn't matter whether you seal those c-pillar vents or not...
