Regarding the poor reception of these AM radios, I just got hold of a TM-1081ZB and its sensitivity is zilch.  I've noted that on other series 1 radios that the sensitivity was pretty poor also but

my latest one is dead. So, I started by replacing one of the RF transistors and got to thinking this radio will need an alignment after replacing any of the RF transistors and I don't have

a signal generator to align it. So, I found the guru of AM radio repair on youtube and just sent him my radio for repair. I asked him to please video the repair process because this is

a pretty common problem on these old signal seekers.  I will post a link to the video on here when he uploads it.  So if any of you guys like to tinker on these radios, this may help you

in troubleshooting what's wrong and you might be able to repair yours for the cost of a transistor.  This should also apply to any first gen s30 hitachi am/fm. The only difference it

appears  is the location of the transistors on the boards. Stay tuned.

I would be interested for sure, sadly after discovering my radio was not an original 240z unit I decided to put it aside and haven't touched it since. It was working ok in terms of signal etc.. but it wasn't perfect.

I have sort of relegated it to the parts bin if I find anymore TM-1081ZB(S) radio's in need of donor parts.

Just as an FYI, I think the radio I had was a Clarion RN-321U model. Looking at a couple of similar Clarion units on eBay and what's left of the model number on a sticker that seems to be what it is. But a Google Search has revealed nothing about them.

He sent back the radio and made this video.  He said it worked good right out of the box. I'm not sure what's going on. It could have been the new RF transistor fixed it and when i retested it, my battery voltage was too low. I don't know for sure.  It looks like he cleaned a bit inside the antenna jack but that shouldn't make this much of a difference.  I'm now getting radio stations acouple hundred miles away in honolulu.

Some of the 200sx here had radio's with the RN designation.
