Value of a s30 240z ?

I have the possibility to buy a 1973 240z manual for 1500$. the body looks great however its on primer, i haven't looked a the interior yet nor the floors and gas tank would need to be emptied before trying to start it. however if all these things are good is this a good deal ? it has been in a driveway for 25years + with a tarp on top of it. by the way this is a canadian car or atleast been in canada for more then 25 years. Is there any specific points i should look at before actually doing an investment on this ? 

question is, is a 1973 240z a car that is worth a lot once fully restored ? i would like to maybe do a "flip" with this car or maybe evan keep it for a while to make some bucks.

The first question you should ask is, "Why has it been in a driveway under a tarp for 25 years?".  Do you plan to "restore" or "refurbish"?  It's easy to pour more money into a restoration than you can easily get back on resale.  Plan on changing all fluids, brakes, rubber parts, rubber seals, and tires.  Engine, carb, and transmission work can be pricey.  All that said, $1500 probably isn't a bad price if the body is solid.

Its been my experience to look for a car with the best body and least amount of missing parts.  For example if i found a car with a straight rust free body that wasn't missing any parts, but was mechanically wrecked with a worn out interior I would still jump all over it.  Given you car is Canadian and on the east coast I would suspect its rusted out and not worth it.  Do some searching on the forum and see some of the rust repairs.  Some of the most common spots to check are the floor boards, frame rails, under the battery tray and around the rear hatch area.

the owner always wanted to have one but he isn't mechanically inclined and has time went by i guess he lost interest and he is now old. since its on primer id obviously would want to  paint it so id probably do a nice restore and put couple of thousand dollars depending how much these cars go for. if its 15,000 then its forsake worth it if the floor is  good and body with the interior being okay and if it starts.

Try using the search feature for  S30 value, rust issues, inspection, etc.  You mention that you likely plan to flip the car so I suggest you put in some effort yourself instead of looking for instant answers from others.  If you have put in an effort searching you should state that and you might get more help.

i am here asking for help if you don't want to give it then don't answer. i have looked around and last that i checked this is a forum for 240z so there must be some experts here. from the researched i found that it could be worth from 8000$ to 30,000$ so its quite a large margin

You are not going to find a $30,000 Z for $1,500 I'm sure you know that. If it has sat under a tarp outside for 25 yrs then you should do some very through digging under the carpets and underneath the car, just be prepared to walk away. Any rust you see is only 20% of what is actually there.

How do you know CanTechZ isn't one of the experts your looking for??? It's impolite to come into a group and be demanding until people get to know you...

I agree you shouldn't have to get to know everyone to ask a question. Many of us have been here for years and we know the "regulars". We all try to help the new people but you shouldn't assume he was being insulting with his recommendations. If you respond in a way that comes across as insulting to a long time member the help tends to dry up. Just trying to point you in the right direction; not be an @$$ .

As for your car...

Rust is the enemy! I would buy about any reasonably complete car for $1500 if it's not eaten up with rust. Reasonably complete to me is some seats, a dash, drivetrain. I can source the rest. You need to look at the common rust areas: dog legs, quarters, wheel arches, floor boards, under the battery and front frame rails. Be careful of the car in primer. I would check those problem areas with a fridge magnet, not too strong. Looking for body filler, the magnet won't stick. Body filler is not rust repair! It is only rust postpone...

 IMO,

 Rust and previous damage are the #1 issues. Even IF you can repair and replace sheet metal, it's a PITA. grannyknot@ is correct, any rust you see is only 20%. Many people have given up on their project when they discovered the other 80%. 

 Complete is #2. Kurbycar32@ sums it up pretty well. Some parts are getting expensive and if you take it apart, you'll have a better idea how it goes back together as well as having the fasteners.

 Mechanical is #3. Hard to judge that if the car doesn't run or drive. Compression test on the engine is possible using the starter. Does it roll? Does it run? Do the brakes work? Wear patterns on the tires can be indicative of other problems.

 It's very difficult to help you with the value of the car when we have little information to go on. Give us some more info and pics and you'll get a lot more help.

There might be a bit of misunderstanding and I might be the cause for this.. I'm wondering the value of a 1973 240z restored with no rust fresh paint everything clean cut and in good mechanical order, not the one I'm wanting to buy. For example most shelby 1969 are sold at 100,000$ + when restored. I'm wondering the same thing for a 240z. I know that they aren't worth 100,000 but are they selling for 5k? 10k? 20?
