windshield leak

I had the same problem.  I had to seal the complete perimeter of the outside of the glass at the interface with the seal to finally finish off the leak.  I tried sealing just the bottom and sides and a bit around the corner at the top but the water must have been folding over the edge and in.  Once the full path was sealed, no more leaking.  I used black windshield sealant it seems to hold up to the sun best.  I also sealed a large portion of the outside of the rubber until I realize how the waster was getting in.

I'm on a budget and my car needs a lot more than just a new windshield seal so I haven't dealt with replacing the rubber yet.

Site, funny you should mention a weedeater, I use weedeater nylon line instead of rope to do windows, it has a small diameter and smooth so it slides past the rubber very well.

That's damn good thinking! It really only needs to pull it over the window. Next window I bust I'll use weedeater cord, thanks!

Well the plan is to see if I can stop it with sealer 1st just to make sure that is the issue, then I will get to sourcing the rubber and if needed (hope not) the windshield (just in case things go bad). It was fun going around the hood with Cpt O, skyjunk is indeed a fun place to spend some time.

Permatex makes a special product for DIY repair of W/S rubbers. It's called flowable W/Shield and Glass sealant. It is a very thin, clear RTV that " Flows " into hidden nooks and crannies of W/Shields that are held in with Rubber gaskets. It has a special small application tip so you can slip it under the rubber and inject the sealant.

PO had replaced the rear hatch glass rubber with an aftermarket POS. It leaked like a sieve... but he never drove the car in the rain. Here on the Wet Coast I do not have that luxury. I was looking at having the rubber gasket replaced but decided to give the Permatex product a try. Gotta say it worked danged good. Hatch rubber is now sealed tight  to the worst rains and my rear trunk area now stays nice and dry.

USA Part # 81730

Canadian Part # 65AR
