Engine Mount Insulator - pilot hole issue?

I'm just waiting for the first report of premature rubber mount failures... Says the eternal parts pessimist.

If the 5/16 nuts drive you nuts and bad line up issue has you twisted, then grind the nuts off or drill them out, and go with M8 bolts and nuts like the early mounts. Something about SAE hardware on a Datsun that drives me spinny...

(Almost) all of the commentary so far seems to apply to the DEA (never heard of them) and Anchor (ditto) brands.  I've always had good luck with Beck Arnley parts in the past and, as noted, they do offer the front motor mounts.  Anyone tried them?  Any fitment issues?

I used Beck Arnleys on mine and had to file a small amount off the top of the peg, not too much though.  They were about $18 each compared to $70 for Nissan's.  Those Anchor and DEA are $4. Beck Arnley were made much better, the rubber was tight fitting.  One size fits all is the problem, same with timing kits now.

What about the threaded stud?  Metric or SAE?  Stock length, or extra?

Even the Beck Arnley's are missing the tacked-on nuts.  Wouldn't be surprised if these are all the same parts, rebranded.  It's the world we live in, brand names are sold and the quality left behind.

240s don't have those tacked on nuts.  That's how I immediately knew something was off about the cheap mounts.

Do 280s have those?  I don't think mine did and am too lazy to walk down and look.  It's hotter than two foot up a goats arse! LOL

I learned today.  You're right.  They added the nuts after Nov. 74.  But Rockauto and others are selling them nutless for all years.

I'm not sure if there's any misunderstanding about the nuts or not, but just in case...

The 240 OEM "nutless" mounts required you to put a washer and nut on the back of the mount. (As shown the pic above). Then later they added the nuts welded to the back of the mounts meaning you no longer need to manually put the nuts on the back of the mount. (Again, as shown in the pic above).

So about the new current aftermarket mounts being nutless or not... The aftermarket mounts don't have actual nuts welded to the back of the mount, but the thick backing plate of the mount itself is threaded instead. So even though the new aftermarket mounts are "nutless", they do have the nut feature incorporated into the mount and you don't need to put additional nuts on the back.

You mean the DEA mounts only, right?  Not all aftermarket.  Beck Arnley is pretty clearly nutless, from their pictures  I missed your post about the DEA mounts.  Their pictures on the web are crap.  From your post #24 it looks like the DEA quality is generally bad.  And you had to buy new bolts anyway.

The Anchor product is "out of stock", but I'm almost positive the OReilly mounts I got a couple of years ago were Anchor brand and nutless.  Their picture may not represent the product either.

Still no aftermarket winners...  These pictures are all from Rockauto.

Yes, sorry. The DEA mounts that I bought have the threaded back plate. Wrongly threaded, but threaded.

I should have bought Beck Arnley and put my own nuts on the back. I think that would have eased the alignment problems I had as well. Having to deal with additional hardware bits would have been a small inconvenience compared to getting the DEA mounts aligned enough to get the bolts started.
