Posted July 27, 20168 yr comment_499692 I'm making my list to finish up the front end and I'd like to replace the steering coupler, but don't want a poly/solid one. Is there a rubber one available somewhere that I just haven't found? July 27, 20168 yr Author comment_499707 Thanks, guys. Part numbers are good. I can do 32.75+shipping, if still available. I've kept a link to a 2010 post on this site about Nissan rubber bushing part numbers by Mike W. It's been very helpful. July 28, 20168 yr comment_499713 I learned the very hard way, poly sucks on that application.  Be sure and make matching marks with a Sharpie before you take that apart.  Another lesson I learned the hard way. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55866-are-rubber-steering-couplers-available/#findComment-499713 Share on other sites

July 28, 20168 yr comment_499722 6 hours ago, sweatybetty said: what is wrong with the poly? Poly transmits a lot more vibration then rubber does, when installed in the suspension some of that vibration is soaked up by the drivers seat foam, but on the steering wheel it transmits directly to the hands which can get tiresome and irritating on long drives. For sure the steering will feel crisper in turns with poly but it is a trade off. I installed a solid nylon coupler and it lasted one season before I replaced it with OEM rubber, much nicer on the arms. Way too stiff for a road car.  Would be good on a track car I suppose.  I put one on my 280 when I rebuilt the motor.  The wheel was twitching constantly, put the old rubber one back on after a month or two. I couldn't imagine having one on a lighter 240 with the original wheel.  Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55866-are-rubber-steering-couplers-available/#findComment-499734 Share on other sites

Ha!  My problem happened when the splined rod that connects to the steering wheel slid out of its engagement.  I just guessed at it and slid it back up into place.  Went to the alignment shop and he said the front tires were almost 2 inches off.  Bad guesstimate.  Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55866-are-rubber-steering-couplers-available/#findComment-499735 Share on other sites
July 29, 20168 yr comment_499773 Someone long ago replaced my coupler with one made of solid aluminum. I have not driven the car over 20 MPH yet, so I haven't experienced the vibrations. I may have to look into a softer one someday.
