17x8 LOWERING STRUT SPRINGS

LT1zs

Recommended Posts

For a Z that would be obtaining some nice 17X8 wheels I have a question. What type of backspacing would be needed? And 1.0 inch lowering Eibach springs are supose to be good, what struts are good. After searching around it seems that coil overs or thinner struts are necesary to fit 17x8 wheels. Anymore info or confirmation of mine would be apreciated.

Like you, I'm a novice mechanic, but my understanding is:

Eibach springs and KYB Struts = Coil over

Springs are "coil", the strut runs through middle of the spring.

If you own a stock z, you already have it.

I don't know anything about 17x8's and what is the best combo of spring and coil for that fitment, though.

Go to the suspension and steering forum, and the wheel tires forum and scan the posts... there might be something or someone there that can help.

Good Luck

There isn't much room under the guards for 8 inch rims.

Some people fit aftermarket coilovers that have a narrower spring diameter (i.e. skinnier than the stock macpherason struts & springs) to gain a bit of room. The other option is to use wheels that have a different offset so that the extra width of the rim is on the outward facing side of the rim, AND flare the guards.
