jalexquijano Posted August 5, 2016 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2016 (edited) My aftermarket radio was working before i took my 72 240z to the paint shop and now it does not turn on at all. I already checked the manual antenna connection at the trunk of the car and the antenna banana plug is connected to the female socket. Dont see no broken wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the radio. The red wire is connected. Where else do i check? I really dont want to pull the heater panel off to see if something was disconnected or not. THe only thing that was done to the car is a swap of the ingnition switch and that only consisted on a plug and play female 5 pin socket. The car is running and all its lights are working. Where else do i check before pulling the heater panel apart? Edited August 5, 2016 by jalexquijano

jalexquijano Posted August 9, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted August 9, 2016 inner radio fuse was burnt. Change the fuse and smoke started going out of the radio. Had to take the radio to an electronics shop for repair. Labour was US$38.00. This was negligence of the paint shop. Everything else in order. Dave WM Posted August 9, 2016 Share #5 Posted August 9, 2016 changing the fuse should not allow smoke to come out of the radio, it should have just blown again to protect against more damage until the issue was corrected. Did you use the correct amperage fuse? what was the problem that needed to be fixed? I assume there was a repair ticket to explain the work that was done. Chickenman Posted August 9, 2016 Share #6 Posted August 9, 2016 Body shop probably did some welding without disconnecting negative battery cable. That will blow electronics in a hurry. Since the Kenwood radio was likely the only modern electronic device on the car... it was toasted.
siteunseen Posted August 9, 2016 Share #7 Posted August 9, 2016 You get what you pay for! They left the battery connected, possibly. That was your lowest estimate body shop I'm sure.
jalexquijano Posted August 9, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted August 9, 2016 These guys charged me US$4,750.00 plus US$800 on materials (PPG White 904 paint and additives) to fully restored the car! I purchased new floors and lower panels.

I purchased new floors and lower panels. That's a price breakdown, $4,750 labor and $800 for supplies. You paid them $5,550 to paint your car, one payment. Very fair for installing new metal IMHO. Quit complaining to us please. Be a man and handle your business.
