August 8, 20168 yr comment_500506 I made the mistake of tipping the driver after my first cab ride in Japan. The driver, a nice man wearing a hat and white gloves and driving an ultra clean taxi, insisted that I take the ample tip money back. I later learned that cab drivers in Japan (at least the ones 45 years ago) took their jobs seriously and did not feel a tip was necessary for doing their work in a highly professional manner. Not sure if that's still the case.
