Ran out of fuel 260z fuel pump wont bring fuel to carbs

Thanks for the advise everyone. The tank is clean, it has been redone. I actually tried a vacuum attached to the fuel line to suck the fuel into the upper part of the line but only got a gas bath. Trying again later today. One other question, I have replaced the fuel tank float seals and now the tank leaks from the float area at 1/2 tank or more, any suggestions how to fix this. The float hardware is new from motorsports.

 Is it leaking around the o-ring or at the elec. connections?

could the carbon canister be an issue with the fuel not being pumped to the carbs. Does the canister if it is not functioning properly make the fuel system have air leaks thereofre the fuel pump is drawing air rather then fuel

 Is the retainer ring fully tightened? I remember Cliff @siteunseen talking about how tight the ring was supposed to be.

I thought it was- I will try cranking it down some more in a bit. It seemed to not have the option to crank down any tighter it was more of a turn it until it goes under the lip intended to hold it in

Sounds like you're still having problems getting the pump to pump.  It really shouldn't be that difficult, unless there's a problem with the pump or the inlet lines to the pump.  If you want to try some things without disassembling everything, you could remove the valve cover and actuate the pump lever by hand.  The pump mechanism and drive eccentric are right there, easy to get to.  Disconnect the fuel lines, place the inlet side in a cup of gas and the outlet inside in an empty cup and see if the pump moves fuel, by moving the lever.  That's all the camshaft does, is move that lever back and forth.  Turn the engine over so that the lever is on the small side of the eccentric so that you're operating it in the normal rage of motion.  Who knows, the eccentric might have fallen off or the lever might have broken.  Quick examination and test.

OK- I got it going by putting air into the return line to the fuel tank- this pushed the fuel through the lines till all the air was out.
