I see a lot of people using their pet photos as avatars, which I interpret as them being special members of the family.

Today, I had to put my dear Bulldog Tibbs to sleep after a long bout of kidney problems. It is never easy making a decision like that, but his quality of life was so poor it was for the best. In the end, he began having seizures and refused to eat and could not even keep down water.

I will miss his easy-going nature, and how he always stayed by my side while working on the Z or raking leaves in the yard. Working on the car will not be the same now that my helper is gone.

Sorry for the non-Z related ranting. It is just the house seems very empty now.

Hey man, real sorry to hear about your buddy. Decisions like that are never easy but it sounds like you did the right thing for him. You wouldn't want him to suffer.

Sorry to hear about your loss.... we had to do the same to Daisy a year ago next week for the same reason (She was only 3). It sucks because they can't tell us what's wrong with them and we have to make the hard decisions. I do have to say that I'm glad you (and I) made the decision to do what had to be done. It pisses me off when people don't do it and the animal ends up suffering for a long time.

I never got too attached to any of my parents dogs (Pekingese, no wonder....) but I sometimes wonder if when the day comes I lose this one, if I will have another after her or not. There's no way I could ever luck out and get one that is anything like her.....

She turned 4 on December 30th, so hopefully she'll be here to keep us company for a few years to come...

Sorry to hear about your loss, I guess only "true" pet owners can understand the empty feeling.

Sorry to hear about that!! It's not easy to lose such a close pet. Don't worry about the non-Z related post. That rule is mainly to prevent spammers and flamers. You're part of our family and hope we can support you during this time.

But, you're right, the decision sounds like it was for the best. The seisures and lack of eating/drinking would have been painful. Glad to see he went peacefully.

Ed-non- Z related ranting is welcome to me when some one needs help or comforting. I still have a empty slot in my heart for an Irish setter named 'Lady Red Barron' that i lost 15 years ago - I understand the way you must feel - I suppose it never goes away but it will get easier. Keep your chin up. Thank God for the time you too had together. Sorry for your loss.

I hope that the loss of your pet is slightly less heavy when you consider that he may very well have thanked you for sparing him the misery of a painful death. I'm sure he's waiting for you, or will be back in another life to share your home.

Its hard enough on us adults when we loose a pet

but having raised a family I find that the kids take it

rather hard. This last time around we got a Amazon

Parrot and this guy will out live me by many years.

I just need to break him from calling me a asshole

when things don't go his way. Actually my kids can

break him when I am gone in 30 or 40 years.

Ed, believe me, I know what you are going through.

It took EIGHT YEARS for my wife and I to get over the loss of our Australian Terrier at the ripe old age of eighteen years.

She was a member of the family; grew up with our son.

I held her while the vet gave her a lethal injection and, I am NOT ashamed to say that I bawled.

Not quite two years ago we decided it was time to get another pet. We chose a Jack Russell. When Barb, (my wife), saw that only two pups remained out of the litter, she suggested we take both.

These two little anim. errrr, people ! have certainly brought joy back into our lives.

Sorry for rambling Ed, just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in grieving over the loss of a devoted "FRIEND".

Just thought I'd mention that one of our Jack Russells, "TOPSY",

is quite good at lawn mowing, concreteing, paving, fence building (She can dig a post hole in no time flat),painting and woodworking.

BUT !!! When it comes to working on the ZED, she is an "A" Grade mechanic. IT'S TRUE !! Just ask her, she'll tell you.

Always really sad to lose a friend and especially a family member. And bulldogs are such friendly and humorous souls. They always make me laugh. I had the misfortune of watching my mother's boxer die slowly over a tortured year(she didn't have the stomach to put him down) and believe me, putting your buddy down is a kind and caring act. Sorry.
