Posted December 1, 20168 yr comment_507278 Remington Firearms is marketing their new re-engineered R51 9mm pistol in various gun magazines. What caught my attention is, the add features a view from a car's rear view mirror, the text suggests automobile breakdown, and continues with something about this guy stopping behind you is not here to help you which is why you need their product. What I found strange was, the car in the rear view mirror looks like a very nice 240Z. That would not have been my car of choice to suggest "danger." Just my two cents. I'll drop a line to them and ask why they chose that car. December 2, 20168 yr comment_507297 Very interesting rendition. Certainly a strong 240 look, the fog lights are a bit I wonder if the rather marked European shape to the license plate suggests/implies distrust of foreigners... To us the suggestion is just silly. It's like portraying a golden retriever as a guard dog.... December 2, 20168 yr comment_507305 Does the 240z have a "bad guy" image? Or maybe the ad writer is a fellow Z member... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/56612-why-use-a-z-car-as-a-sign-of-danger-in-an-add/#findComment-507305 Share on other sites
December 2, 20168 yr comment_507307 Funny, I always thought the Z was more for the "Bad Boy" image, you know, the kind that some girls go for, not the "Bad Guy" with the black hat. Also it's obvious that it's a Fairlady with 280 and 240 turn signals. You know whoever that is can't be trusted. Just sayin…….. December 2, 20168 yr comment_507313 It's just a mediocre ad, guys. We've probably spent more time interpreting it than was spent in production. December 2, 20168 yr comment_507322 I'm assuming the person who came up with the ad was thinking a Datsun Z would be an more ominous presence than an AMC Pacer. December 2, 20168 yr comment_507331 If I'm stranded on the side of the road and a guy pulls behind me in a well-preserved, classic Japanese sports car, I'm thinking "Awesome! Wonder if he'll tune my carb while I change the flat." December 2, 20168 yr comment_507341 Hey, if they wanted to make it really scary they could have used the image of a Pinto backing up toward you!
