72zcar Posted April 15, 2003 Share #2 Posted April 15, 2003 if there is no clicking or clattering or snapping...just a thud then the front mount on the rear-end is broke( the rubber has seperated from the metal)not the tranny mount but the rear-end mount near the driveline rear u-jointif I were u I would check the tranny mount while I was under there, the mount is the same type (metal and rubber) and can seperate. It is near the back of the tranny... but the noise coming from the rear end mount.
AxtellZ Posted April 15, 2003 Share #3 Posted April 15, 2003 CLUNKING REAR END From "the Z Garage":This is the bane of all Zcars, it's almost impossible to completely fix. It can have many causes, but is almost never caused by the internals of the differential, especially if it's an R-200. The following are all the places the clunking can exist: worn out mustache bar bushings (replace with urethane) u-joints on the halfshaft ends are loose and worn-out (common, replace them) tighten all the mounting bolts/nuts on both ends of the halfshafts front differential mount broken (try tightening the 14mm nut in the bottom first) driveshaft bolts loose ball bearings/grooves in halfshaft body worn (replace halfshaft) tighten the two large nuts that hold the differential to the mustache bar shocks bad or loose in strut I personally think most of the time it's caused by the mustache bar bushings. These thin rubber bushings rot and flex and let the bar clunk the floor on acceleration.
72zcar Posted April 15, 2003 Share #4 Posted April 15, 2003 oh yeah.... i would check it soon. The movement of the rear-end can cause the driveline bolts to snap... if this happens the driveline can fall off (nothin holding it in the front) and slam around under your z causing your car to go out of control and flip it over... :tapemouth so go check it. 72zcar Posted April 15, 2003 Share #5 Posted April 15, 2003 Check all 12 bolts on the u-joints... and all other bolts but most likely Its the front rear-end mount... .. loose and mushy mustache bar bushings don't make a thud noise:bunny:
