I installed the inline ball valve on the In hose mostly because without it heat would transfer through the coolant by convection and after an hour of driving the heater core is radiating heat, on a summer's day that was too much for me.

Seems I may be mistaken - the valve hoses are cold, if I run the car with the heat off, so the heat I felt must have been residual

Another thing I had to address while under there - the center console harness connections. All re-pinned

@Captain Obvious - question for you - do you know the correct pin release tool for these Yazaki terminals? I have a 70's VAG terminal set that has the barrel-type release tool, but the sleeves are not the correct ID/OD of the Yazaki. I used a pick to remove the old ones, which was fine here, however I'd like to be able to remove good ones without damage 🙂 Any pointers to a source?

Sorry, but no. I never looked into a purchasable tool to release those Yazaki contacts from the shell. I made one on the lathe. I'm travelling right now, but will take some pics when I get home in a couple days (if you haven't figured out an alternative by then).  I also think I have a sketch from when I was designing my tool. That might help identify something on the market that would work.

I think/thought @SteveJ may have turned up a tool on the market for that? Maybe?

Okay, I made sure I found the right part numbers.

For the male pins, this extractor works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G46DJVU  The larger side is the one that fits over the male pins.

For the female pins, the Iwiss (also known as Icrimp) WR01 works. I bought it with a weather pack crimping tool: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GB698KV/, but you can also get it with a couple of other pin extractors: https://www.amazon.com/IWISS-Extractor-Removal-Metri-Pack-Connectors-3/dp/B08PKLZXCX

It's interesting that the Male pin tool is listed as being for molex - the old (late 70's) VAG crimp & release tool kit I have includes an array of interchangeable Molex removal sleeves, but not ones that fit the male/female Yazaki sizing. Perhaps I lost some sleeves over the years. The nice thing about that tool is that it is spring loaded, so it pushes the terminals out after relieving the spring tab.

I'll get the variants you've listed, since they work for this application. Thanks again!

I just experimented with pin removal tools until I hit the jackpot. Some of it is luck, and some of it is actual research paying off. I think I bought the Molex pin remover after taking measurements of the male pins and searching for pin removal tools with that dimension. The iwiss was dumb luck since I was interested in getting a weatherpack terminal crimper.
