Unless there is a paper history on the car and it's mileage, IMO It would be a safe bet to put a 1 or a 2 in front of the current odometer #.  You're talking about a 42 year old car.  It would have to be in pristine condition to have less than 100K on it.

Not to worry though, the L engine is legendary for endurance so don't let the mileage get in the way.  It's more about the rust.

Take a look at the pedals for excessive wear, especially the clutch.

The automotive equivalent of looking at a horse's teeth to determine its age.

Note that it is easy to replace pedal rubber covers, unlike horses teeth, so don't put much faith in new/slightly worn looking pedal rubber pads.

Sometimes the numbers do not quite line up on the speedometer after they rolled over 100000.  But I wouldn't count on that either.  Speedometers get changed also.

So you just have to judge whether the car looks to be low miles or has been driven a lot.  If there is documentation to the mileage that would be great but in the end there is really no way to know.
