I having a 3L L28 stroker built for for 280Z.  It has a 5 speed that was installed by original owner almost from new.  I still have the original 4 speed and driveshaft.  I am looking for a a reliable shop to go through this trans prior to mating up with new engine.  This trans has been rebuilt once back in the 1980's.  Can anyone recommend a shop in western Michigan that can handle this project?  I'm hoping Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids area.

Not really clear if you're looking to go through the almost new 5 speed or the old 4 speed. Either way, this doesn't answer your question about Michigna or Michigan, but might be worth consideration considering you spent the money on a stroker.  You'll have a spare front case.

Yeah I was reading that when I was getting into Zs it seems like the most reliable option due to the changing in synchro tech.

Can you still grab these from Nissan as remanufactured units? Perhaps Courtesy has them..

I have the 5 speed in a shop, torn down, ready to reassemble.  Synchros and friction pads look OK according to builder.  He suggested replacing if available.  This is a competition trans model #32010-N3200.  Information I was able to find on another chat line is it uses Servo type synchronizers.  It seems to work fine, except bushings in shifter were shot.  Was considering MSA short throw shifter.

Try Original Customs in Grand Rapids. They are a restoration shop so used to working on old cars. The first customer he ever had was a 280Z so he does know the Z.
