Posted February 19, 20178 yr comment_513353 Im looking for cast flattops to rebuild my 83 f54/p79, having a hard time finding ones that arent forged but I stumbled upon these. It says theyre for 75-79s but as far as I can tell those were the same as the pistons in the f54 block. Can anyone see any reason these wouldn't work or if I shouldn't buy from this source? https://zcardepot.com/engine/engine-rebuild/piston-set-of-6-pistons-l28-020.html?search=piston Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57102-question-about-pistons/ Share on other sites
February 19, 20178 yr comment_513355 You'll end up with a low compression ratio. The P79 head has a larger combustion chamber and those ZCD pistons are dished. They'll fit but lower engine performance. Do you have something against forged pistons or are you trying to save money? Do you need oversize? Rockauto has the basic cast pistons that seem to work for a lot of people. http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/nissan,1982,280zx,2.8l+l6,1209350,engine,piston+/+piston+ring+kit,14008 I've read somewhere that Datsun Spirit can get pistons. https://datsunspirit.com/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/57102-question-about-pistons/#findComment-513355 Share on other sites
February 19, 20178 yr comment_513356 ITM makes flat top Pistons for the P79/F54 block. eBay always has these pistons for sale, also a number of vendors do as well. I would make sure the pistons are ITM's, as many of us have successfully used ITM Pistons in the F54/ P79 combo's. However, I don't like their ring sets, so I either use OEM Nissan or Total Seal rings with the ITM's. February 19, 20178 yr Author comment_513361 Alright, was having trouble finding oversized. Found the ITM pistons .040 over on ebay. 21 minutes ago, Zed Head said: You'll end up with a low compression ratio. The P79 head has a larger combustion chamber and those ZCD pistons are dished. And I plan on staying NA, at least for a good while. Thanks everyone! February 19, 20178 yr comment_513365 Bought the whole distributor from amazon for $100, '79 zx and put it on my 240. I think the 83s have the e12-93 with two connections. The extra was for the crank sensor?
