Guycali Posted April 18, 2003 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2003 Hiya fellas,I'm comtemplating on draining the old gas from the tank since the car had been sitting for couple years. However, my dilemma is that I'm not sure how much gas is left in the tank because the fuel gauge doesn't work anymore! I suppose I can fill up couple 5gal buckets with the drained gas but what can I do with it afterwards? I don't have a part washer bin and can't simply dump it somewhere carelessly. What did you do with the old gas you drained?Regards,-Guycali
24OZ Posted April 18, 2003 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2003 Hi, I was sure I rememberd Mike asking this very same question, quite a while ago. Have a look here Disposal of Fuel I don't think we came up with a conclusion as to what Mike did. Mike what did you do?
Bambikiller240 Posted April 18, 2003 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2003 Offer it to your least favorite neighbor/co-worker?Just kidding. In Alameda county we have a Hazardous Waste Disposal facility (two of them) that will take stuff like this. Look on the Contra Costa County website for Hazardous Waste Disposal. You guys probably have a similar place.
Guycali Posted April 18, 2003 Author Share #4 Posted April 18, 2003 Thanks for the advice. I finally found the number to the "Hazardous Household Waste Mgmt" facility in Martinez. Their automated messaging system says they will take in "automotive care products". I'm hoping old gasoline is considered as automotive care products. They will accept only 15gal of waste maximum per trip and require proof of residency in Contra Costa County.Hazardous Household Waste Mgmt4797 Imhoff PlaceMartinez, CA.800-646-1431-Guycali

I've never taken gas, but I've taken 8 gallons of oily paint thinner and they took it without a problem in the Alameda Co. facility. You should be good to go! tanny Posted April 19, 2003 Share #7 Posted April 19, 2003 Makes good weed killer. If there are no large chunks and it isn't 30 years old, could be used in old mower. Guess it's best to take it to the hazardous waste place.
